Not too much time to savor the UIC win ... one day of rest before the resurgent Bulldogs come to town.
Rest is the key word. Butler didn't play tonight.

At least they travel to the cell. 2 road games in 2 days would be brutal.

I am a bit worried about this game...Butler is a proven team with alot of senior leadership. They can flat out shoot the three. If we give them looks like we gave UIC looks last night we could be in for some trouble. So we really need to guard the perimeter. Also with GB down and UIC obviously down, it would be nice to start a bitter rivalry with these fellows again. Id really like 5,000 plus at the cell saturday night. That would be nice

No Bucks game and MU plays in the afternoon. The Admirals are the competition at the BC Saturday night.
Combined with the student 2-for-1 deal and the season-ticket holder promotion of four extra tickets, I'm anticipating a good crowd. Don't want to put a number on it and jinx it, though.

Posted in the JS Online, I already emailed Greg to let him know he forgot the Milwaukee Panthers in his paragraph regarding the basketball games this weekend.
If you would also like to email Greg to include the Panthers, here is his email address:

FRIDAY, Jan. 6, 2006, 6:51 a.m. FirstWatch: What's ahead in the news today
Happy Friday.
The weekend is in sight (even if the sun is not), but we have a little business to take care of first.
In soon-to-be news, former state Sen. Brian Burke (D-Milwaukee) is scheduled to report to the Dane County Jail this morning for the start of his six-month sentence for using aides to solicit cash for his planned run for attorney general and altering records subpoenaed by prosecutors.
But he likely will be in bed at home in Milwaukee by the end of the day. Burke’s case is being transferred to Milwaukee County and he is to be placed on home confinement with work release privileges.
Meanwhile, Gov. Jim Doyle has scheduled a morning news conference to "act on a bill" that deals with lead-poisoning liability issues for paint manufacturers, drafted after a Milwaukee court ruling went against the industry. Local activists have called for a veto, and given the news conference location - a south side health clinic - it looks like they will get it.
Also ahead:
It will be slow going tonight in downtown Milwaukee (take note Bucks fans), with another freeway closure. This time it’s to tear down the Wisconsin Avenue bridge over I-43. The closure begins at 9 p.m. and is to last until 9 a.m. Saturday.
Same drill Saturday night, beginning at 10 p.m.
Movie releases today include "Casanova," a romantic swashbuckler starring Heath Ledger, who’s getting Oscar buzz for his performance in "Brokeback Mountain;" and "Breakfast on Pluto," a drama about identity starring Cillian Murphy.
And in sports, the Bucks are back in action tonight against Da Bulls, with Chicago at the bottom of the division. Alas, we cannot say the same for where Da Bears finished. They get the weekend off, but the NFL playoffs start tomorrow.
Put that cheesehead away.
It’s not a bad dream. The Packers really are out of it.
Meanwhile, the weekend will bring the renewal of some college basketball rivalries: The Marquette men will host Cincinnati for brunch (11 a.m. tip off) Saturday at the Bradley Center, while on Sunday the Badgers get Michigan State for a late lunch date (12:30 p.m. tip off) in Madison.
Sorry if we made you hungry.

I hope we have a nice crowd out there Saturday night....We will need it...This is not the Butler team of the last two years, but rather a team with a ton of potential and they will be fighting for the HL with us right till the end...It would be huge to knock them off early in the year and create some space between us and the rest of the league....
We will finally get to see how our perimeter defense is...We have not been seriously tested this year other than the Memphis game (Which we will leave alone since it was the first game of the year)
Lets get rockin n rolling and get another W

funny to see i get a message back from the JS FirstWatch guy directing me to yesterday's mention of Milwaukee's game against UIC... fantastic, but what does that have to do with tommorrow's RIVALRY game against Butler? you have to love selective omission.

Here's the email I sent to Greg this morning:
Greg,
I just wanted to let you know that I am upset and disappointed that you failed to mention the UWM Panthers in your First watch post from this morning. As you know of late the panthers have been more successful than Marquette, and are a bigger school, and went to the NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen last year. Its important for the people of Milwaukee to know there are alternative games to Marquette on a Saturday.
Sincerely, Matthew Gilbert
Here is the reply I got:
Thanks for the suggestion. I was not aware of the game, in part because I mostly compile the information, which is sent to me by other reporters based on what is happening on their beats. I have since printed out a schedule for each of the teams (FYI: UWM does not make it easy to find a schedule on their site. Perhaps you should send them an email about making it difficult for people to know there are alternatives to MU on Saturday). I will keep it handy for the days I am the one putting FirstWatch together. However, since you wrote about being “upset and disappointed” in the unfairness of it all (who knew a lack of a mention in FirstWatch was so crushing?), I thought I would provide you with a sample of what goes on. Yesterday, I included the UWM games – yes, games -- men AND women. And, guess what, some MU fans were not happy I did not include their women’s game the day before. And, yes, MU vs. Virginia is a bigger game than UWM vs. Wright State. And, using your measure, I think the MU women have been more successful than the UWM women. Oh, by the way, not all Bucks games make it, either. And, last I checked, they had more fans than UWM did. The bottom line is not all games will make FirstWatch. It is not a calendar of events – there are other places in the paper and the web site for that. It is a quick, breezy read of some – yes, the word is SOME – of the things happening that day or weekend. Thank you for reading. Greg Borowski City Hall reporter Milwaukee Journal Sentinel 333 W. I'm not sure how I take it. He starts out apologetic, but its not his fault, then he refers to women... no offense ladies, but its just not exciting... and then he rips our site? Thoughts?

Is it that hard to go to www.uwm.edu click on athletics, click on the link for the offical page: www.uwmpanthers.com click on mens basketball and then schedule and results? And yeah Greg, there are probably more Bucks fans than Panther fans, but what about the 2-3000 people that are on the fence about which game to go to? And I didn't want to make UWM the alternative to MU, I think its more about Bucks vs. Panthers.
