I was looking to move to San Fran or L.A. for grad school.
Are there areas in either where I could find an apartment that I don't have to bang rich old ladies for?

Oh nice. On USF, the neighborhood around the university is cheap(er) to live in but you don't want ot live there, trust me. Would you plan on having a car if you moved here? That could make a difference on where I recommend that you live as parking is HORRIBLE and many people that live in the city don't have cars.

I've actually had some good experiences w/ Butler peeps but that was back in the day. SF is expensive, but a great city from a culture perspective. Personally, not sure if USF is "the school" for what you're trying to go grad school for, but I'd probably look elsewhere...can probably find cheaper. I have a degree from UWM. I still cannot legally shoot elk in Colorado without additional fees. T

I'd sell the car and bike or whatever.
The parking anywhere there is hellacious as is.
For Law School,it comes down to Oregon,USF,or USC maybe

I must say that I can't believe the lack of students....It is always the same few, cheering loudly.....we need to get some more people involved...the students that were there were not making very much noise.....we need EVERYONE in the section raising hell!!

on the topic of a UWM degree being a "hunting license", that is bull****. Both I and my brother have degrees from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee; my brother has a grad degree; and we have great jobs making good money in rewarding fields. To tell you the truth, if we had gone to a private school, it wouldn't have made an iota of difference, and would have cost be both of my kidneys.
As for student attendence, has there ever been any thought to taking freshmen over to the cell and maybe teaching them some cheers during orientation at the dorms? They did this in Madison for football, and it really gets people pumped to attend games, and its a good way to get info to the newbies. Just a thought.

Ahhh while we pay a ton for our education (25k is a few thousand off) it definately pays off and opens doors other places like UWM can't do. As for 3 or 4th tier please check US News and World Report for the Midwest College Rankings as Butler is always in the top. As for the game I thought both teams played poorly. UWM definately should have won the game by 10 plus, but if Butler would have made some of their open looks they could have also got the W. As a Butler student this may be a biased observation but I was shocked at the low-level of student attendence at the game, but it might have just been the case that most students were on break even though I believe most students that attend UWM live in Southeastern WI. As for UWM vs Butler, I have to admit that the figures point to UWM having the edge in the past few years however Butler still holds the all time series by almost 20 plus games. Looking at the HL as a whole this year I feel UWM is a tier above all other teams and should finish it first, but anything can happen. I look forward to another good game down at Hinkle and hopefully the Dawgs will win one for me in my seinor year and then maybe a potential matchup in the HL tournament. Oh just another casual question "are you UWM fans satisfied with the level of play from Joah this year?" because it appears he was a much better and complete player last year.

Joah's been working on his jump shot bc NBA scouts told him he could make it in the NBA if he had a good outside shot. He's started going inside now and that will help him (and us) a lot.
As for the degrees, I'm sorry but I never heard Butler as being a top college. I don't think having the word Butler on a degree gives an advantage unless the person doing the hiring went there was well. I know people who go to Marquette think they will have an advantage but then I know people who graduated from there and say it was of no help at all.
People looking for employees look at grades, course taken etc. not who gave out the degree unless it's a school everyone agrees is top notch, like the Ivy League schools or even Northwestern, Wisconsin, Stanford.
UWM doesn't have the tradition you guys do so it's harder to get the students to come to the games, plus I'm not sure that all of them who might come are even aware of the free admit policy.
And yes Butler could have won the game. We had one day to get ready for it, the Bulldogs had four and I'm sure that made a difference. The Dawgs had an opportunity and they didn't take advantage of it, that's part of playing the game.
But we do respect you guys, and always worry whenever we play Butler. You have a scrappy team that didn't give up and played hard. Maybe in February that will pay off. Last night it wasn't enough

According to Butler, "UWM's 15 minutes are about over." Aren't we 11-3 and going to make the tournament 3 of the last 4 years?
I don't remember anyone caring when they got to the Sweet 16.

Of course we cared. They're in the HL. We should want all HL teams to do well. They have a long history of great BB compared to them, our years in the sun maybe like 15 minutes. Of course that doesn't mean our 15 minutes can't become years

Doors in terms of internships, jobs, and grad schools and we'll leave it at that. I agree that Butler as a whole is not known throughout the country and by no means any ivy league school even though the with the admin. may like to think so charging us a steep tuition. And i'll leave all the other stuff at that because this is a b-ball messageboard and nothing more. Thanks for answering my questions bout Joah. As for the remainder of the season I hope that if UWM makes it to the tournament (which they probably will) I hope they can repeat the success they had last year because above all it is good for the league.

Butler between 1997 and 2003 had 7 consecutive post season appearances. They are no slouch of a program and have had plenty of past success. Their 2003 run as an at-large bid in the NCAA Tournament and subsequent participation in the Sweet 16 was a great achievement for the conference. While many of us may not be fond of them, they do deserve respect for their accomplishments. I'm sure one reason why many of their fans resent us is because they have been around for a long time, and yet many of us act like the Horizon League/MCC only has been around since Bo Ryan brought us back to being a competitive team. Our tradition is just beginning, but schools like Loyola, Detroit, and Butler among others have had great success that we should understand and respect while still being proud of our own.
