Butler between 1997 and 2003 had 7 consecutive post season appearances. They are no slouch of a program and have had plenty of past success. Their 2003 run as an at-large bid in the NCAA Tournament and subsequent participation in the Sweet 16 was a great achievement for the conference. While many of us may not be fond of them, they do deserve respect for their accomplishments. I'm sure one reason why many of their fans resent us is because they have been around for a long time, and yet many of us act like the Horizon League/MCC only has been around since Bo Ryan brought us back to being a competitive team. Our tradition is just beginning, but schools like Loyola, Detroit, and Butler among others have had great success that we should understand and respect while still being proud of our own. Art Vandelay So we should "respect" their traditions because they have longer histories of success? But since our traditions are newly found they don't have to "respect" ours? It just doesn't make sense to me really.

Doors in terms of internships, jobs, and grad schools and we'll leave it at that. I agree that Butler as a whole is not known throughout the country and by no means any ivy league school even though the with the admin. may like to think so charging us a steep tuition. And i'll leave all the other stuff at that because this is a b-ball messageboard and nothing more. Thanks for answering my questions bout Joah. As for the remainder of the season I hope that if UWM makes it to the tournament (which they probably will) I hope they can repeat the success they had last year because above all it is good for the league. I would LOVE to see the stats on this one.Of course...Butler is so hard, that I got accepted, and applied as a joke.

Wow ... I remember a few years back when I was at Butler and we always bemoaned not having a true rivalry in the conference ... I guess we're there now with name-calling, complaining about announcers and all the while two good teams clashing in down to the wire contests.
A couple things ... everyone there in Milwaukee has reason to be proud of what's been done ... when I was at BU the Panthers were a guaranteed W and that's changed to a guaranteed close game and in recent years a likely defeat. So congratulations. And enjoy it while it lasts, because BU fans know it can go up in flames quickly.
As for all the classless comments ... in a lot of respects BU earns its snobby/elitist reputation ... Being small some people who pay a lot of their parents money mistake that for being exclusive and thereby believe that their commentary is more important ... Hopefully everyone on this board doesn't believe they speak for everyone ... I know it doesn't for me ... We've all got things we're good at and things that are available everywhere.
In regard to the announcer' scomments on past players ... whatever. If anyone in the conference should be considered thugs though shouldn't it be Detroit (just kidding)
You've got a good thing going enjoy and hopefully we run into you again two more times so that this rivalry continues to grow even if there are some negatives that come along with the excitement.

It just doesn't make sense to me really. Damasa, I didn't mean to make it sound like they shouldn't respect what we have done. My point was mainly toward comments such as "I don't remember anyone caring when they made it to the sweet 16"(in regards to Butler). Every UWM fan should be proud as hell of this team, but I just don't want to see our fans develop that same stigma of being arrogant that many Butler fans face. When we win games I want to see our fans congratulate opposing fans on a good game (some trash talking aloud), but in the end leave them with the impression that we've done this before. I just don't want winning over the past few years to go to our heads. Art Vandelay

LOL. What is it now, eight losses in nine games? Ouch! Izzo is starting a petition to get Dick Bennett re-hired.
