And now we know why Amanda didn't want them playing in a postseason tournament.

UWM is dead to me. Especially Braun. Players and coaches will always be in my heart.

Well at least that's over. Was getting so sick of the constant bickering back-and-forth that I was, and am, seriously thinking about not renewing my tickets for next year. Would be the first time in 11 years that I didn't.
If it wasn't for my daughter who likes going, likes going to the women's games, and now wants to go to some volleyball games, I would have already made up my mind. That was even before today's news.
Now I'm hoping someone over there wakes up, admits and corrects the mistake, and figures out how to get Plinske out of Nebraska and back into this state.

Milwaukee Announces Jeter Will Not Return As Men’s Basketball Coach
Panthers to begin national search for new coach immediately
MILWAUKEE (March 17, 2016) - Milwaukee Director of Athletics, Amanda Braun announced today that Rob Jeter will not return as the Panthers’ Head Men’s Basketball Coach.
“Rob has always put the interests of our student-athletes first and has represented our program and the university with class over the last 11 years. I thank him and his staff for their contributions,” Braun said. “After a thorough review, I have decided that a change in leadership of our men’s basketball program is needed to help us achieve our goal of consistently being a top program in the Horizon League.”
Jeter compiled a 185-170 overall record in eleven seasons at the helm. The Panthers finished third or higher in the Horizon League regular season standings twice in the last ten seasons and have not accomplished the feat since 2011-12.
“As we begin the process of searching for a new head coach, we will identify candidates who believe in our mission, possess high character and integrity and have a proven track record of continued success,” Braun said.
A national search will begin immediately for Milwaukee’s next head men’s basketball coach.

Congratulations! Terrific move by Amanda Braun. Long overdue actually. Bring in a coach who understands the importance of discipline in a program. Obviously Braun needs to make a good hire, but the ceiling has just been lifted off your program.

Since the GB I have stepped off the ledge and wanted to extend his contract. Mixed emotions about this, would much rather Braun be gone than Jeter..

Interesting you would bring up watching some of the other teams. Be assured that the current and upcoming challenges are not limited to Mens Basketball. The downturn has already begun in other sports. In 2013/2014 the Mens Soccer, Womens Soccer, Womens Volleyball and Mens Basketball teams were NCAA Tournament qualifiers. There were other successes. Some recent RPI numbers: Mens Soccer – 171 Womens Soccer – 134 (top 25 in 2011) Womens Volleyball – 172 (46 in 2011) It is good to see Womens Basketball having success -- their current RPI is 150 Guessing that an athlete who would have said YES in 2010, 2011, 2012 now goes elsewhere. There are programs that look good from the outside that can often be a mess on the inside. The sad thing now is that, from what I have recently seen, Milwaukee Athletics is actually getting a lot of things right inside the teams but the leadership makes so many strategic errors that it looks like things are a mess. A talented recruit receives a lot of interest from “top 50” schools. The offers and visits are often very similar. Parents and athletes are looking for “red flags” to differentiate. They do their homework to detect a bad coaching situation. They are savvy enough to know that an unsupportive administration will ultimately bring about the most misery for the athletes and coaches -- a challenge that cannot be overcome, so they look to avoid this by searching for clues within any information or connection they can find. In recent years, they don’t have to look too far or hard. Do the non-rev, hard-working and dedicated coaches stand a chance at getting a Sarah Hagen, Rachel Neuberger, or Kerri Schuh now? Couldn't the Athletic Communications Dept off-set some of the negative stuff – not much creative going on there. Articles are a copy/paste from the one before and could use some proofreading Video highlights poorly hosted/ poorly edited Opinion: Keven O’Connor was top notch – “sloppy” never happened on his watch I cannot imagine how difficult it must be for the coaches to recruit and develop players under these conditions. Some of the “fixes” do not require a large financial investment but they do require a commitment to strong leadership and strategy.

This was, at most, a year away. So it's not all bad.
As I stated on Twitter, I won't be making any statements of preference for replacement because I don't want to influence it either way.
I also want to impress upon everyone, please do not hold any ill will toward the next coach. He will have had nothing to do with this, and doesn't deserve anything but our full-throated support.
I'm not confident in Braun's ability to hire the next coach. I hope she proves me wrong.
