What a recruiting nightmare...yeah, we might win our league and earn the right to host what could be the biggest game of your college career but, then again, maybe we'll have to go on the road as league champs and win it on someone's floor in front of someone's fans. Keep in mind, the title game can be played in Milwaukee on March 6.

This was talked about on the roundtable today. Dennis is stunned that the WCD didn't make a push for the 2013 WIAA toury.

Saw the Roundtable too. It sounds like Wave scheduling conflicts were what kept the Cell from accepting State. Really?! Again, these are all pretty much rumors, but the WCD is looking like a group we want to bolt from at full speed. Whether that's (ideally) an on-or-near-campus site we own or buying The Cell. Imagine if we had owned The Cell when the WIAA comes calling.
Which brings about an advantage toward buying it. While I'd still prefer a site North Ave or closer to campus, The Cell's location, size, and history give it something "Klotsche 2.0" couldn't contend with.

On the contrary; I think the benefits of an arena on campus, in a district full of restaurants (like North Ave) is a big, big advantage over the Cell.

On the contrary; I think the benefits of an arena on campus, in a district full of restaurants (like North Ave) is a big, big advantage over the Cell. This.If you bring it back to the Eastside, you have to understand that 1,000-3,000 people attending any game are coming from out of town and are gonna wanna grab a bite to eat before the game. Should we tell them to just... "meander" their way to an impossible campus Quad parking spot and go to the (anti-Panther) Gasthaus? I think not. Plus, the food sucks at the Gasthaus anyways.... I would hate to pre-Game at that place. Which is why I wouldn't... if the arena is built where people say it is probably going to be* Find a new manager, head chef/cook who can actually develop some quality menu items and the Gasthaus could be a nice place to hang out and watch road games, etc. Oh, right.... they don't carry our games do they.... What irony that a rare thing such as a D-I "university-sanctioned bar" does not give a sh*t about nor display that university's games. It's an indefensible and very weird thing (along the lines of uwmpanthers.com and uwm.edu in general insisting in a "healthy mixture" of alternating references to our sports teams). Give us a break. Or better yet- get a clue. It's the Milwaukee Panthers. Go correct or go home. The most ironic thing is that, while you think you'd have to have the local newpaper establish a "Milwaukee Panther" brand before any national media outlet (like say, espn.com??) took notice... the EXACT OPPOSITE HAS HAPPENED. Very odd, at least from this reader's standpoint. Fahg it. I don't really care what they call us, because I'm confident that one day in the very near future, this will no longer be an issue. MILWAUKEE PANTHERS. MILWAUKEE's TEAM.PS: Sorry.... I know I veered way off topic. But back to the matter- this situation with the WCD nipping our season finale chances in the bud, is nothing short of a complete and sad tragedy. PPS: Off topic yet again, but worst case scenario- build it in the weird on-campus spot (Norris Health Center? Really?) in the middle of a residential neighborhood... and I'll bet the North Ave. bar & grills will be happy to provide shuttle busses. But that's not the ideal IMO. Build it on the WPC site. I know space (and more importantly $) is limited, but this Uni can find a way.

Let's remember that we still get the HL Championship game if we in fact are the #1 seed and win our semi-final game.
Off topic: If the cell can't fit our primary sports attraction into their schedule, how the hell will they fit a hockey team into that schedule until the university can build a new arena?

Short answer: they can't. And won't. The arena is in a pivotal time right now. Let's hope Rick Costello is doing major fund raising.

Even though we would still be able to get the championship game back in Milwaukee, we shouldn't have to deal with the #2 seed's crowd cheering against us in our semifinal game. Can you imagine if Butler ends up finishing #2 and their student section gives our opponent the home court advantage?
This would be embarrassing for our fans, our school, our city and the Horizon League. Home court advantage being taken away from us because a bunch of 6 year olds will be taking over our arena to watch Disney on Ice. Makes me sick.

Having seen some of the early semifinal games, there likely wouldn't be enough people in the crowd yet to give it a "homecourt" advantage for Milwaukee's opponent. If we're using that as an excuse, in all likelihood Milwaukee wouldn't deserve to win the game.

So we'd be playing our semifinal right after the #2 seed won. It's going to be a looooot different this year if we win.

I heard more about the situation this morning. The contract situation with the WCD is as reported, and there's not much we can do about it.
As for alternatives, we will seek a waiver to play the other games at the Klotsche. If we are the 3 to 5 seed, we would probably get a waiver to play our first round game there. If we are the 1 seed the chances of getting a waiver to play the quarters and semis at the K are a lot more difficult. The capacity, once you take into account all the other people and equipment you have to fit in for tournament games, is terribly small. You could barely fit our season ticket holders and a few students The myth that you can put 5,000 people in the Klotsche is wildly off base. The other local venues are not alternatives. The Bradley Center is already booked for other events and there's no chance we would consider playing games at the Al.
Needless to say, this will be a very hot topic in the WCD renewal negotiations.

So we'd be playing our semifinal right after the #2 seed won. It's going to be a looooot different this year if we win. No, it won't. Whoever is hosting the semifinals will be the late game. In 2004 ... Butler hosted the semifinals as the 6 seed (due to previous commitment to host the tournament, even though the format changed). Milwaukee was the 1 seed and played the first semifinal vs. Detroit. Butler played after against 2 seed UIC. In 2003 ... Milwaukee hosted the semifinals as the 2 seed (due to the same previous commitment to host the tourney). Butler was the 1 seed and played the early semifinal vs. Detroit, Milwaukee followed vs. UIC. So if the host team plays first and loses, the entire arena will empty for the second game. Horizon League won't want that.

I'm guessing 2004 was probably the last turn in the rotation and they had to complete it before going to the format there is now.
If I was AD I would try and make the host sell separate tickets and clear the arena. I would rather play in front of an empty arena than one full of fans cheering against us.

Regarding hockey, I would be disappointed if the basketball arena was made hockey-capable. It hurts some of the best seats in the house. However, the Kern Center has the basketball arena and hockey rink separate. I'd be open to that.
