I was just looking for a thread to bump but I didn't see a good one so I thought I would start one.
The student fee to pay for an on campus arena has been approved roughly a year ago now and I thought by now a few more details would be out about the project. I also contacted the alumni association this winter because I wanted to make a donation specifically for the arena and the they made it sound like something would be setup by spring.
I know they still have some planning to do on it but I figured they would have done more PR work than they have so far on it. Anybody know anything with this project?

Nothing specific, but in a brief "how's life" conversation at the golf outing Rick Costello mentioned to me that it has been a busy summer and specifically mentioned meetings about the project. I didn't follow up, however. So I think that the wheels are turning behind the scenes. By the way, if you could put, say, 7 zeroes at the end of your check I'm sure naming rights are still available.

Good to hear. I figure that planning was going on but I am ready to hear some more details on the project.
I'm sure the name rights are available, only problem with me is the first number will be zero or the decimal point will be in front of the seven zeroes.

Arena projects typically go through the quiet planning phase, a still quiet lead gift phase, and then they get a big, public push when they're looking for the real money to close the deal.
Ours is unique because a certain student writer blew the lid off of the first step.
I don't regret it, from a writer's standpoint or a fan's standpoint. As a writer, I had two solid sources on the record from the SA on the arena fee and George didn't attempt to stop me. As a fan, I know how long it takes our athletic department to move and going forward with the story was my way of lighting a fire under their ass.
So don't get too worried about no news right now. They haven't gotten to the lead gift phase - they're taking meetings, so my guess is those meetings pertain to the design of the arena. They'll have a solid idea of what they want when we start hearing about it.
The George situation delayed the project. Now Rick's feet are properly wet and it sounds like he's ready to swim.

I guess since the Student Fee become public knowledge last year that their would be more news about the project. Kind figured the AD change slowed some things down. I am just eager to hear an update and make a small donation.
If you can't tell I am really excited for a new on-campus facility because I think this will finally give the basketball program a home. With an investment like that it will aide the entire department but also help the basketball team establish itself as a program that is a consistent winner.

I'm sure the name rights are available, only problem with me is the first number will be zero or the decimal point will be in front of the seven zeroes. I'm pretty sure that it would only take 5 zeroes to get the naming rights. So that should help you out.

I just added a poll for fun. I would love it if they opened the arena against Green Bay. In state opponent, conference rival and the place would be all black and gold. I think my second choice would be Butler.
On second thought it would help if the opponent had a bigger name because it would be good for the program to have the game on national television.

MU for sure, but unlikely as it would probably open for exhibition play.

MU for sure, but unlikely as it would probably open for exhibition play. I kinda wouldn't want it to be MU or Wisconsin cause I want the opener to be packed with Milwaukee fans. MU and Wisconsin usually bring alot of fans when we host them. It wouldn't necessarily be during exhibition play. I know UW opened the Kohl Center at the start of big 10 play and played Northwestern. I think St Loius opened there new arena a few years ago against Missouri State.

i would like a big name...but a smaller name would be better. You could sell 5000+ tix at the opener even if it is niagra, uc irvine, st francais, or even njit....

I voted for Marquette, I hate those spoiled rich scum bags Ah yes, the spoiled, rich scum bags. The ones where 87% are receiving financial aid because they aren't spoiled or rich. Those?
