Anthony Passley commits to UW-Milwaukee. "North Central senior Anthony Passley has accepted a basketball scholarship to Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Passley, a 6-4 forward, averaged 14.2 points and 8.5 points last season. He picked the Panthers over Southern Illinois and Bradley." "6-5 small forward Tony Passley of Indianapolis (IN) North Central has committed to Wisconsin-Milwaukee after visiting the Horizon League school's campus this past weekend. He helped lead the Spiece Blue Devils AAU team to titles in the Hoosier Shootout and Kentucky Hoopfest, despite the team not having standout guard A.J. Ratliff for either event." Pike guard Torrian Bluitt knew someone had to do something to curb North Central's comeback attempt.
The Panthers had just cut Pike's lead to six points in the fourth quarter. Bluitt answered with a 3-pointer.
"No one else was stepping up, so I knew I had to do something to keep our team going," Bluitt said. "I got the wide open shot, so I took it."
Bluitt finished with a team-high 20 points to guide the Class 4A No. 2 Red Devils to a 71-60 triumph over the 4A No. 3 Panthers at North Central.
That completed a Pike basketball sweep. Pike's unranked girls upset 4A No. 1 North Central 53-40 in the opening game of the doubleheader.
Like the school's girls team, Pike's boys (2-0) took control early and then had to withstand a North Central (1-1) comeback attempt.
"This is definitely a big confidence booster for our team with us being young and not having a lot of experience on the varsity," Bluitt said.
Bluitt made four 3-pointers. His last one was the biggest, giving the Red Devils that nine-point lead at 60-51.
Pike coach Larry Bullington said Bluitt's 3-pointers and steals were key.
"He's very athletic," Bullington said. "He can shoot the ball. He's a good defender. We just want him to be consistent each night out."
Bluitt was a reserve on last season's Class 4A state championship team.
"He's continued to play better and he's playing with some confidence now," Bullington said.
Pike sophomore Curtis White added 11 points off the bench, including six in the fourth quarter.
"The coaches told me to play smart, don't turn the ball over and let the game come to me," he said.
Bullington said White's baskets were important in keeping the Panthers at bay.
"We knew in the game like this there were going to be spurts," Bullington said. "We talked about playing through the tough times."
One problem Bullington had in the first half was several players had two fouls. Starters Mike McCoy and Braxton Mills each finished with four fouls.
"The big thing is we handled the ball better in the second half and our shot selection was better," said Bullington, whose team led 35-27 at halftime.
Senior forward Anthony Passley paced the Panthers with 21 points. Senior guard A.J. Ratliff scored 11 of his 13 points in the second half for North Central.
Panthers coach Doug Mitchell said turnovers hurt his team in its comeback attempts.
"The thing I like about this team is they will learn from this and I don't think that will happen to them the same way again," Mitchell said.

No. 5 North Central overwhelms No. 3 Carmel Panthers' defense, 3-point shooting key in rout of Class 4A No. 3-ranked Greyhounds.
CARMEL, Ind. -- North Central's pregame ritual involves the players coming together in a circle and falling in a heap at center court, a tradition the Panthers upheld Friday at Carmel's Eric Clark Activity Center.
The host Class 4A No. 3 Greyhounds probably wished the Panthers had stayed in that heap, as the 4A fifth-ranked visitors led by as many as 27 points en route to a 78-57 victory.
North Central (3-1) led Carmel (3-1) from the start in the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference opener for both teams, as freshman guard Eric Gordon made a pair of 3-pointers to make it 6-0 early, prompting a "He's a freshman" chant by a vocal Panthers crowd.
Also impressive was Indiana University signee A.J. Ratliff, who posted a game-high 23 points and was 5-of-9 on 3-pointers.
In one sequence, Ratliff hit a 3-pointer, then swished another after a Carmel miss, then came down for a one-handed dunk as the Panthers ran to a 52-26 lead with 1:10 left in the third quarter.
Despite the offensive performance, Ratliff said his squad wanted to make a statement with its defense, which North Central coach Doug Mitchell reiterated.
"I thought we played with a lot of energy, which is what we have to do against teams like this," Mitchell said. "The pressure was relentless at times. They have good shooters and we didn't let them settle in."
But Mitchell stopped short of calling it a statement game for the Panthers, whose loss was 71-60 against Pike.
"It was a game where we wanted to show improvement in some areas -- defensive intensity and pressure," he said.
The Greyhounds were held to 34 percent shooting and were 19-of-29 from the free-throw line. Junior guard Ben Myers led Carmel with 17 points, senior Brian Wylie had 15 points and IUPUI-bound Craig Swoope finished with 12.
"I just told them it's the fourth game of the season and we have to make a daily commitment to getting better," Greyhounds coach Mark Galloway said of his postgame speech. "We had a lot of opportunities with missed layups and free throws we normally don't miss."
Defensive pressure led to easy buckets for the Panthers, who shot 59 percent from the field, almost 67 percent in the second half. The talent and athleticism were hard to miss. Senior post player Anthony Passley had 13 points and a couple of crowd-pleasing dunks. Gordon contributed 14 points and four assists, earning praise from one of his elder teammates.
"Eric's been big for us; he's playing like a senior," Ratliff said. "He handles the pressure well and looks for shots and is really mature for his age."
Carmel continues to be without 6-9 junior Josh McRoberts and 6-8 senior Chris Fetter, neither of whom is expected back until the end of January. McRoberts, who averaged 16 points and 9.9 rebounds last season, has orally committed to Duke.
Mitchell acknowledged that the Greyhounds are banged up, and said his team just needed to win a game in the MIC. The true test could come in March, as both teams are in Sectional 9. "Josh McRoberts could make up for 20 or 30 points, but we'll see come sectional time," Ratliff said.

Looks like he went 17-23 from the field and 2-7 from the line. Also, he had 8 boards and 1 block. Not a bad game. ;D

Outstanding game! I'll ask BP about Passley tonight after the radio show. I'm sure he has some good insight.
BTW, the radio show is tonight 7:00 at Hooligans. It's usually a pretty good time...if you've never attend, it will be worth the drive.
Later, UWfreak

Passley scored 18 last night in the fiirst game of the Marion County tournament. North Central is now 11 - 1 and is set up for a showdown tonight with Pike (the only team they lost to this year 71 - 60). Passley is playing huge this year and is starting to be considered as one of the top contenders for POY. www.indystar.com/articles/5/111030-1365-042.html

Sounds like we got ourselves a player next year. Can't wait to see him play in a Milwaukee Uni. Sounds like he's got a good mix of mid-range to inside moves and can create for himself a little.
