Per the Butler board, it was reported in the Indystar today that Passley has been granted his release on monday. I looked for a link on the online site of the indy Star, but could not find one. I knew Passley was home sick, but i thought he would work it out and be back on campus for the fall. Oh well, time to move on and have other players step up.

I heard this was probably going to happen...... How can you be "homesick" before school even starts? A couple of weeks away in the summer and he is homesick already? I wish him the best, but maybe it is better that he isn't in a Panther uniform if that is the kind of heart/desire he has - or maybe he is just someone that needs to be by his family. Again, I wish him the best, but these things happen for a reason. The guys need to forget about it an move on.

www.indystar.com/articles/6/170899-7746-036.htmlPassley receives releaseNorth Central graduate Anthony Passley was granted a release Monday from his basketball letter of intent with the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. An Indianapolis Star Indiana All-Star in 2004, Passley said he wants more time to consider his future. The 6-4 forward, who averaged 17.2 points and 7.5 rebounds as a senior, said he probably will enroll at a prep school or junior college for 2004-05.

Holy *^%$!!!
Well if THAT doesn't suck.....Agreed, if his heart isn't in it I certainly understand. However something just doesn't seem right in all this. P30, I agree being homesick before school even starts is beyond odd. Hell, is he even living here now?? No other students are in the Res Halls, few have moved into apartments....are the players already here otherwise??
Wow. Totally unexpected....

UWMfan, that was my reaction to a T. I could already hear the name Anthony Passley rolling off your tongue. The addition of a third-team all-Indiana forward sure would have breathed life into our frontcourt rotation and helped offset Dylan's loss. This whole thing, in fact, is very odd. I realize Anthony's just 18, but hasn't he had all of the last two years to decide if this was a good fit for him? It really leaves us in the lurch, with only 11 scholarship players for 2004-05.

ever get that feeling that you just woke up from a bad dream...AND then you get a boot to the nuts.
I don't care if he's homesick. Its a team game. You signed on to be part of a team. I agree with the thoughts that this is fishy.
Unbelieveable!

He's homesick? How come I want to puke? I hope BP doesn't get too discouraged but, then again, I couldn't blame him.

Say, McDade, don't you or Greene or Hughes or McCabe have some eligibility left? Even a shred? Anybody?

We need frontcourt help. Call Billy Ross and Roderick Johnson. Didn't they leave early?

URGH! This hurts a lot. We are going to need more help with the rebs this year. I agree, something is fishy. I would not be surprised if he ends up at Butler. If he is homesick, that would be where I would go. It is the major university in Indianapolis. Ah well, nothing we can do about it. As long as we dont play like the USA Men's Olympic Basketball team we'll do just fine. Bring on the 04-05 season! Later, UWMfreak

Since no one has come right out and said it, let me be the first: Barring some kind of family emergency, this has all the earmarks of outside interference (if you know what I mean). It will be fascinating to see where Anthony winds up. By the way, I wish him all the best (unless, of course, he lands with one of our rivals!).

IMO, I would be shocked if he landed at Butler. I really don't think BP would have let Passley out of his letter of intent if he new that he was going to go to a conference rival. Personally, if Passley wanted to go to Butler, I would have not released him from his LOI and made him sit out 2 years.

It definitely will be interesting to see what eventually happens with AP. Did he take/enroll in summer classes? What I am getting at, is there any way he can transfer to another DI this year and play at the start of the season next year? (i.e. this is an issue in the eyes of the NCAA when determining when the "sit out" clock starts ticking, for determining how long he has to sit out......for example would the first semester be "wasted" (per the NCAA), or could he start "sitting out" right away the first semester?). I know he said he was thinking about going the JUCO or prep school route, so this may be a moot point, but I was just curious. Also, if he wants to go to a JUCO/prep school this year, any one (with the exception of Vincennes Junior College - which is about 2.5 hours from Indy) would be further away from his home than Milwaukee is, and if he is truly homesick, this just doesn't make sense. As far as I know, nearly all the prep schools are on the east coast (for the non geograpy majors - that is far away haha). What is this guys deal?

I believe he was enrolled for the summer term; but he appears to have withdrawn in late July.
Let's also just say that, I have reasonable knowledge to say that, his academic record coming into UWM was, ahem, a bit challenged. I just wonder if taking summer classes opened his eyes abit? Who knows.....
Certainly I wish him well and hope he gets things ironed out, but hope someone can step up.
So if you're bruce, do you hold onto that scholarship for next year and go hot and heavy after someone new? Or is there any last minute person out there that could still help the program immediately? I guess I'd opt for the former....
