I fear the Horizon League Tournament thread soon will be wrecked if we don't start a separate thread, so here it is ...

I think it is premature to discuss a full time move to the K now. How about renaming this thread to "All in favor of moving the HLT quarterfinal game to the K"? Of course, anyone who wants to discuss longer term implications could still do so in this thread.

The only thing that rubbed me the wrong way was using Bo and Bruce as a reason for playing the game at the K. There was a reason Bruce brought games to Panther Arena in 2003.
Oh and $2 parking. LMAO.

Terrible idea. Why do we keep going back to this (other than the obvious...cost)? Do we want to grow as a program or not? Moving back to the K is not growing the program. It's a high school gym!

If the program can legitimately create a sixth man atmosphere by replacing a couple hundred grumpy old men with a couple thousand energized students, and put them in the face of the opponent for the biggest game of the season, it makes total sense to me. I see where Bart is coming from.
I applaud Amanda for getting out of the way to let Bart do what he feels is best to win. He is a winner. She clearly recognizes that.
Winners sometimes have to make tough decisions that may not always be popular with some. Isn't that what we wanted in a head coach?

All this does is make the rest of the casual MKE public think we're a d2 or d3 program in all but name only. This going to do nothing to win causal fans over, it's not going to get us top recruits, it's not going to do anything positive in the long run. When the Cream City Classic was going on, I was sitting next to visiting fans, and they were asking me why they were playing here, when they were hoping for playing in the Arena. We're not going to get better opponents for OOC games either with this move BTW.

Let's be honest, there are people on this board who talk a big game about winning, but then when this particular subject comes about turn completely milquetoast, which proves they really don't give a damn one way or the other. They just like to sit on their chaise lounge in the sun and read their posts on this board.

Not a good look on TV having 2,000 fans in a 10,000 seat arena. Even worse look failing to sell out a high school gym.

I'm fully against the KC longterm, but winning and advancing this year is the most important thing for the growth of the program. Most "casual" fans aren't coming out for a quarterfinal game regardless of where it's played. That's just the reality. The only real way to truly build buzz that will significantly carry over to next year is a run in the HLT and making the NCAA. If playing this one game at the KC gives us the best chance to win, then so be it. Rather than boycotting, the best thing to do for the program is come out Thursday and create an environment that helps the team win.

I think Bart fell on the sword and took one for the team by saying it’s all his choice. There’s so many people involved in that decision and so many details that have to be arranged that this decision was made before Thursday and it was a group decision.

We had less students at the game this Thursday then we had downtown for the last month. So you really don’t have a point at all.

I'm an alumnus and former season ticket holder. I stopped getting season tickets for a couple reasons. The two biggest were a progressively worse schedule and the team becoming worse in a declining league. Prior to this season I hadn't attended a game in 4 - 5 years. I've been to 4 games so far this year and will be attending tonight. I won't attend the conference tournament game at the K because it's a dump by high school standards. There are many more people out there like me who are getting excited about the team becoming relevant again. A move to the K will kill this excitement and any ability to move to a better conference. Outside of just Horizon League officiating, the quality and perception of the league is not great.

I hate going to the K to watch games, but I get this decision. More likely to get the students there, smaller building that will be more full and louder. Plus, this isn't the semis or finals, so I'd imagine it's not gonna be easy getting the casuals out anyway.
If we use it next year for small out of conference games, it does have it's uses. But we cannot grow the program without the Arena for now.

There’s a lot of puzzle pieces that can be put together to indicate that this is an indicator of a long term move. Here is the one that’s really bugging me right now.
This was announced on Twitter a few hours ago and the responses have been essentially all negative. And it’s not so negative because of a single game at the K; it’s fear that this is indicating that the team may go back there full time. There has been no indication from the UWM Men’s Basketball account, Bart Lundy, Amanda Braun, or Adam Schemm to alleviate these fears by saying something like “UWM Panther Arena continues to be our primary home venue” or anything like that. I know that Adam (at least) has been answering other questions on Twitter about this game. It seems like a really bad PR move to let people speculate about a move back to a high school gym when those fears could be largely alleviated by a single tweet.
In a vacuum, the game being at the K on Thursday isn’t a bad move. I’d venture to say it’s almost a good move. But the long term concerns that are tied to that is what makes this feel so crappy.
