Assistant coach wife with a nugget. Players wanted this. I'm sure Lundy asked the team, what do you think.

That's all fine and good (and I think that most of us can support them this ONE time), but surely those who been around this program for more than a year or two (with all due respect to the younger board members) can fully understand why many here are "freaking out."

I know it was. They were all raving about how loud we got it on Thursday. Can you blame them for wanting that advantage for the tournament? I mean come on You are coming at it from the same perspective of all those fans who don't want the conference tournament to go back to the old format of top seed hosting with a double bye - as in, you haven't been there. 5,000 at the Arena is preferable to a sold out KC, and I'm expecting 4-5,000 per game next season at the Arena even if we only do the base line marketing we've done for years. Bruce Pearl moved us downtown so we could grow into it, the cupboard laid bare in spring 2006 and it took time to build, but Jeter built the average attendance from under 2,500 to over 4,000 by 2012. The move to the Klotsche in 2012-13 destroyed that progress. People keep talking about the numbers, but they fail to see that from the moment Andy Geiger made the announcement that we were going the Klotsche Center until the moment the coaches were told by Chancellor Lovell that they were 90% sure they were going back downtown, the best commitment the program got was Cody Wichmann. The first recruit we got to commit after telling them that we were going back downtown was Matt Tiby. It's not just attendance, although it's been pointed out and I'll point out again that student attendance was better the last two months at the Arena than at the K on Thursday. It's recruiting. You're essentially going from the "House that Kareem Built" to a 50-year old intramural gym that was not built for intercollegiate athletics. The Arena is too big for us - now. But it's not going to be too big for us as long as Lundy keeps building the program. And I'm not the only one that has more confidence in him to keep growing the program fast. You'll see when we pack it. Thursday at the K is fine. Permanently, not so much.

Can you blame them for wanting that advantage for the tournament? I mean come on If it was more of the team's choice, I can live with that. They had said before that they love the loud crowds, so I get that. But also, the Arena is what Bart has been selling since he's been here. He's used it as a recruiting tool so far, and he talked about his love for the history there. As for long term, the Arena DOES need much more modernization of the overall amenities (concourse and such) to last more than another 10 years, however, if this is an option: Marquette's lease at Fiserv is only through 2025, because they're looking at using a more moderate-sized campus arena for most of their games, with Fiserv as an option for games with larger crowds. Long-term, IF we either massively upgrade the KC or build a modern alternative on campus, capacity of 6-7,000, then the Arena for bigger games, that's a possibility to explore too. And lastly, if this is truly a case of the players and coaches agreeing to this, then why didn't Bart at least suggest that this was a team-oriented decision? It's easier to accept and doesn't give the impression that the Ath. dept made a rash impulsive careless decision. The picture being painted overall of this is not flattering at all for the Athletic department and the team.

All we can focus on right now is the present, why worry about what’s going on in the future when we have this team right now ready to go on a run?

Bart imo feels more comfortable playing in a small arena since he wants the game at the K. The Curry Arena in Charlotte has 2500 seats The K has 3500 seats. For 10 years he played to a packed to semi packed Curry Arena and sees the advantage of playing in a small venue like that. He's old school knows and how to motivate the players he recruited. You want to show him respect and thanks pack the sh*t out of K and let him coach. If he loses he cant blame the environment..... If that's his mindset, he should coach in D-II.

We have the worst timing. Put out a bad product for years and struggle to fill Panther Arena. Now we actually get a winner to come coach here, and they want to send us back to the K. It’s the wrong thing to do for many reasons. I’ve been at the Arena when it had 10,000 fans. It is a GREAT venue and rockin place to play. Keep winning, and the cost of the lease will be an afterthought. You want to make real change? Get the Horizon to stop with this Indianapolis nonsense. Let your top teams have home court advantage and have a higher likelihood of sending your best teams to postseason tournaments. Not to mention, reward them financially with a packed home game to end the season. Yes, Buppie! Yes! Yes! Yes!

Bart had been selling the Arena to recruits, and that's part of why these players came, but they also have said lately that they love the crowd noise too, so that may be the main reason. With the right marketing push this offseason, it can be loud in the Arena again.

For those on here that will go to Goolsby's after the game, hopefully you'll have a chance to talk to Bart about the venue issue. I would appreciate any posts about his comments afterward.
Can he confirm the program is committed to remain at the Arena? Does he still see it as a selling point to recruits?

One of his first tweets after being named coach was about how excited he was about coaching in a historical place like the Arena, and he used it for recruiting too, showing the history, and showing Fiserv Forum next door, telling recruits, "You're literally going to be playing next door to the NBA."

Plus asst coaches wife shouldnt throw the players under the bus when Bart was trying to own it. Once more this program cant figure out how to do anything correctly. So the players were so hyped to be at the KCenter that they barely dispatched a very average Mastodons squad? They were so hyped they came out flat as f*** on d again and fell behind.

Guess I am one of those old grumpy people. I am absolutely disgusted and mortified. Again, just when you start getting some trust. Back to moving to the KC which was a debacle and set the program back immensely. Then the academic probation literally right after the tourney. Now this. I smell a rat. ie, money related. How can there be any trust or credibility. I loved Lundy but now I am disgusted. Slap in the face also to season ticket holders to play all these games at the KC but then this on top of it. Frankly, they sholnd get a refund . Good luck selling more in future when there is obviously no respect in pulling the rug out anytime the AD feels like it. Coach I am struggling now with respecting you. I have really grown to respect and love Scott Warreis broadcasts but to see him sucking up and spewing crap about the great Klotsche center made me want to puke. He is a shameless suck up....Lastly, how in the hell is lundy going to recruit with the Klotsche as our main venue. got to be kdding. It is a tick above a freaking high school gym. Embarassing ....no amenities...cheap pile of crap. Shame on all of them.
