So back to the point of the thread, McCollum’s next game isn’t until Tuesday. Assuming he’s the top choice, there’s no reason to not have a more in-depth interview to occur and get the bulk of the negotiations done now and hopefully get a letter of agreement signed.

I will give MattG props. Welcome to the DBoard.
Little history for those who don't know me. I walked into UWM into the golden goose. My freshman year we went to the Sweet 16.
Jeter was a great guy, good enough coach, but didn't get fully over the hump, now keeping in mind the HL has a lot more talent, you know the National Runner up in Butler. He did his best, and he started to falter. I cannot say I wasn't on board with letting Jeter walk after the 09-10 season. 3 out of 4 years Milwaukee made it to the dance, won games, advanced, there was a precedent that this team could compete and do it well. Bruce built it, Jeter took what Bruce left and got back, and won a game. Who didn't think we could keep it up.
That didn't happen. Jeter didn't get it done. 7th, 4th, 5th, 4th, what was happening. Then he turned it around T-1 NIT bid, 3rd Place CBI, okay we are building up. 9th 5th 5th, we did have miracle run in the HLT 2013/2014, and in that team you could see that talent coming together. But Amanda was set on removing him at that point and we had to move on.
Since then well we know. The University hired the wrong AD's, made the wrong choice, and what we have is the results of that.
We all need to look at who else would want to come here and will. It's a given many here want McCollum, but does he want to be here.
Is there someone we aren't seeing who would want to come in and be the U Rah Rah guy, calling 1250, and 97.3 to get air time to be on shows as a regular, to help boost the program. Will they stand in the halls of Merril Hall to promote the team and high five college kids walking to class.
It's going to take a person who will be the coach and promoter, someone who can and will be the face of Milwaukee Panther Basketball.
This is not going to be an easy job, but for the right person, it could be perfect. Maybe this shows a major school what they could do and they leave in 5 years.

Here we go, re-litigating the past for the 10,000th time... Shut up, already. You still have a hard on for a coach that has been gone for 6 years. Get a life! This is why I can't stand 85% of our "fanbase." If you spent anywhere near as much time and energy on what's going on now as you do hating on a coach that's been gone for 6 years, the program might be in a far better place than it is. Instead, you sit on your asses and run your mouths while the program rots. Is this directed at me? Lol. I don't hate Jeter. I would have loved to have someone of Jeter's caliber over the trash we just experienced for the last 4 years. My point was that it was time to move on, and I know there were very smart people who are fans of our program that grew tired of mediocrity by the end of Coach Jeter's run. Still, he never deserved the treatment he got. You are right about one thing; this is not the place to dredge up bad memories. We need a coach that can bring success back to the program and unite both the overly dramatic and level-headed, rational fans. Winning cures everything. |

I wasn't pinpointing any one individual. It's a group that insists on constantly operating as a circular firing squad, and I'm sick of it.
Pearl's gone. Not coming back.
Jeter's gone. Not coming back.
Baldwin's gone. Hallelujah!!
Let's start over from there. Braun and Mone are still here, and we all know they are less than stellar (that's being nice). Enough arguing about crap from the past two decades. It's over and we can't do anything to change it.

Anyone else hear the rumor that Ben McCollum was on campus today? No but the timing would make sense considering when they play next, if he was truly on campus today. There has to be serious mutual interest. |

Where is your cell phone when you need it. I would love to see McCollum as the next coach. Even if he moves elsewhere there can be a standard set. Butler did it for years hiring in house coaches for the most part. I choose to remain positive and look forward to next season. New coaches, new uniforms, new players!

If you don’t agree with everything we say, you’re a horrible person who shouldn’t be allowed to be a Panther fan.” It’s.. not very welcoming. And this whole idea of needing to give your full name to be seen as legitimate on the board… if you’re on the board for the first time and your first post is given an unwelcoming (or even bullying) response, why would they feel comfortable sharing that information where they’re not welcomed? It’s ok to disagree, but there’s a respectful way to do it. We all know UWM needs more fans… it’s easier to get more people into the team when they’re welcomed to its fan board. |

I'm getting sick and tired of the posts about being sick and tired.🙄 You’re far from the only one. Lately it seems like the message to new people on the board is “Welcome to the board. If you don’t agree with everything we say, you’re a horrible person who shouldn’t be allowed to be a Panther fan.” It’s.. not very welcoming. I would add to that the occasional "who are you to dare come here and say such a thing, someone from the athletic department or a player's mother?" paranoia. Most of us on here are very tolerant and respectful of opposing viewpoints. Newcomers, returnees and regulars are welcome and encouraged to participate. It sometimes does not always feel that way when the very small minority speaks frequently and loudly. |

Guys I don't need to be defended, especially against the chicken littles like Shadow of Bruce or BBFran who get triggered and go ballistic because I brought up the past mistakes of this program when talking about the exact things to avoid going forward. We have 15 years of dog crap between RJ and PBS to look at as a playbook of what to not do. Bringing stuff up that happened is not necessarily dwelling on the past and absolutely doesn't merit a hilarious meltdown from ignorant posters.

And guess what, I don't know who you are nor do I particularly care but I will say you don't come across as remotely knowledgeable about the game of basketball whatsoever in your posts going back years, just an ardent supporter of the program. Appreciate the fervent fandom, the program needs all it can get.
