There’s no doubt a fast, cheap, reliable, easily administered test could be immensely helpful in controlling the virus. (Note, I have no idea if this one will be any of those things.). Remember, however, that it’s only useful for that purpose if you also have contact tracing and quarantining infrastructure in place so that you can quickly identify and quarantine other possible and actual carriers. Just like a vaccine can’t get the job done without first addressing the daunting manufacturing and distribution issues.
So, like a lot of other things we have heard (many of which have proved to be useless or worse) this is potentially good news. But even if it proves out, it’s just one piece of the solution. That’s what makes all the planning so difficult and so tentative. We need to get to work putting everything in place societally so that the scientific advances, whenever they really come, will actually see us to the other side of this.

Hey everyone, Its Tony. Been a while since I've tried to keep up with UWM B-Ball, hope all of you have faired well with [current event] of [Current Month] I do have a question, if fan attendence is not to be alllowed, will there be expanded telebrodcasting? I'd like to continue supporting the Panthers, but I'd rather not buy Espn+ or/and U for just 3 games.
Thanks all, Tony

Thanks all, TonyHey Tony, We are still evaluating all options in terms of basketball fan attendance, broadcast options, and what this year will look like. In terms of broadcasting our gams, ESPN owns our rights through an agreement with the Horizon League. The only exception to that at the moment is when we broadcast them locally on a Fox Sports WI or a my24. More work still to be done before the season gets here. - Adam

I sure wish that the league would extricate itself from the ESPN vice. It just doesn't do anything to advance us.

I don't think that UWM has to worry about attendance issues, unless they move games to the local church.

UW-Madison just moved to all online instruction.
My daughter-in-law is a Professor at a large University hereabouts. The week before classes began she told me “I give it three weeks.” Looks like a prescient call.
Considering what’s coming, I expect this will also wreak havoc with any current planning for the college basketball season.

According to Rick Neuhersel on Sirius XM, that can still work. That leaves 8 schools for 7 conference games. I agree!

It would be a real bad look if a school had to shut down in person school because of Covid-19, but played a full contact sport against a team from another school, possibly in front of some fans (I see 25% capacity is used a lot). I’m not saying some schools wouldn’t be willing to do it, but I also don’t think it’s coincidental that the first league to say no to fall athletics was the Ivy League, and that two of the higher tier academic conferences (Big 10 and Pac 12) have postponed the season. They know the risks of playing, and most of these schools are making it clear they are themselves as academic institutions first. If they can’t provide a full academic experience, a luxury like football should also be on the back burner.
