As a previous post stated...facilities, facilities, facilties...so many excellent posts lately with facts and statistics on other schools and their facilities. Amazing,,,here we are...D1 with 30,000 students in the year 2013 with nothing planned plus we vacate the U S Cellular Arena which gave our program some legitimicay in facilities and moved back to to our 1970 intramural student rec facility. We play baseball , only D 1 program in Wisconsin and in the very city where MLB has its HQ and field named after Henry Aaron in a freakin county park.
Amazes me that Grand Valley State can have a nice track facility, Concordia a nice baseball stadium... Vincennes Junior College an arena comparable to ours with an actual hanging scoreboard which our gym celing can not even accomodate. Heck, Grand Valley State's arena seats more than the KC, 4,100... Awhile back and I know economic times are brutal but Madison spends mega bucks on whatever it wants in buildings (not just athletics obviously) , there needs to be somehow more political pressure from Lovell, Barrett and others on Walker to get some money for UWm athletics as this is brutal .... Doyle got some money ponied up for the Pavillion so I think we are going to have to first allocate more segregated fees (not saying higher fees but higher proportion going to athletics) and it is going to take help from the state as there are not the private donors at least willing private donors to make facilities happen here other than maybe the baseball complex which again, nothing happening as usual...just talk....We need to get the track , baseball and practice facility done like now, then have a longer range plan maybe for on campus basketball but in the meantime play at the U S Cell and suck it up... get the heck out of the KC before interest in the program and going to the games erodes even further if that is possible. Ok.. where is the money coming from? I think donor and MLB on the baseball park, state help on the track and practice facility and a long range campaign for on campus arena but in the meantime utiilize the U S Cell and maybe even purcahse naming rights on that in the interim....someone higher up in academic and political circles has to really push as our school deserves better from the State...we are a D1 program , not only that have 30,000 students for Gods sake and our facilities are not even as good as Grand Valley State and many other junior collegs, D2 schools not to mention small D1 schools.
