i also wouldn't be surprised to discover that at least some of them may be implemented in the new personnel system being developed for UW-Milwaukee and the other UW System institutions (with the exception of UW-Madison, which gets to go its own way).

UWM Athletics Could Be So Much MoreBy Michael Hunt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/extrapoints.htmlI think there are a lot of good points and reasonable thinking in this article. I know football is quite a bit down on the priority list right now. But I like the realistic approach that Hunt suggests by starting football as non-scholarship at first (the Pioneer League) and adopting UW-Whitewater's system and perhaps their coach (Lance Leipold). And from there eventually move up to fcs scholarship, and then fbs scholarship.

Thank you. I appreciate the kind words. I want to be able to really provide the news fans of the program expect from any great newspaper beat reporter. The more premium subscribers I can pick up, the more time I can commit to the growth of the website and the stronger it will be. As for people who don't like that I have a forum: it was the easiest way to accomplish the premium sections. I'm not trying to take down this board - after all, I still post practically every day here. It's just a simple way for me to post premium news without having to go through a bunch of work. As far as football, we could be Pioneer League in fall 2013 if we wanted to - seriously - even with all the turmoil. But it would have to be a short stay, because even I wouldn't like a Pioneer League team for too long (2-3 years max).

I think being in the Pioneer League would be a short-term resolution but it could help get football off the ground while giving the athletic department more time to fund-raise and find support for a move to scholarship football. In terms of where to play, a stadium similar to UC Davis’ Aggies Stadium could fit perfectly in the land behind Riverside High School in Riverside Park. UC Davis built Aggie Stadium in 2007 at a reported cost of $30 million. Aggie Stadium holds 10,000 people and can be expanded to at least 30,000 people. www.ucdavisaggies.com/facilities/ucda-facilities.html

I'm very sad to see Rick go. From the times I talked to Rick and his wife, I was proud that they came to Milwaukee. I was on board the first time I saw him speak, when he was on the Dennis Krause Show.

I really like the idea of looking at candidates who have a wealth of experience as a business executive as well as a connection to the university. This might just be the person who fits the bill: Steven A. Burd ('73 MA), Chairman, President, and CEO of Safeway, Inc. “STEVEN A. BURD, age 61, has been a member of the Board of Directors since September 7, 1993 and has served as Chairman of the Board of Directors since May 12, 1998. He has been Chief Executive Officer of the Company since April 30, 1993 and President of the Company since October 26, 1992. In addition to his extensive experience leading the Company, Mr. Burd brings considerable directorial and board committee experience to our Board. Mr. Burd is a director of Kohl’s Corporation, where he serves on the Compensation, Executive and Governance and Nominating committees. Mr. Burd also serves as the Lead Independent Director of the Kohl’s Board. Mr. Burd holds a B.S. in Economics from Carroll College and a Masters in Economics from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.” people.forbes.com/profile/steven-a-burd/47678P.S. I took the above article from Forbes.com (the link is located above). In the article it states that Burd received a “Masters in Economics from the University of Wisconsin.” I corrected it to add Milwaukee in the article that I pasted.
