My jets are quite cool, thanks for your concern. I merely noted an observation. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to come off as condescending. Just felt like we were re-hashing over the same stuff. No problem, it’s all good.

As a mid-major program with below-average facilities, a lacking fan base, a commuter school perception, and a program which is irrelevant both in the national and local media, I would say that our basketball program is a stepping stone job for coaches. In the landscape of college athletics our program is not a final destination for young and hungry coaches. It doesn’t mean that it can’t be, but right now, our program is utilized by coaches to land coaching positions at higher profile programs in one of the 6 power conferences.
In terms of Jeter’s interests, I don’t think making at least $1 million a year at Nebraska is such a bad thing. Yeah, poor Jeter, he’ll make over $1 million a year and practically every game he’ll coach at Nebraska will be on either the Big Ten Network or on National T.V.
How many games has UWM played on National T.V. within the past several years?

This link has been posted on another thread but it also fits in really well with the notion of a basketball program viewed as a stepping stone job. www.tulsaworld.com/sportsextra/TU/article.aspx?subjectid=94&articleid=20120317_94_B1_CUTLIN671562I’m not a big fan of Doug Gottlieb but he makes some solid points in this article. Here’s an excerpt from the article: “Tulsa became labeled as a stepping stone job. And, ESPN's Doug Gottlieb said, that wasn't bad. Then or now.
"I don't see that as a negative," Gottlieb said. "I know some Tulsa fans are going (to disagree). That's what it is. Unless you are willing to spend over $1 million on a coach and $1 million on a staff and have a practice facility, that's what you are. “
"There's nothing wrong with it ... go out and get a solid young head coach with good credentials that can energize the program."

I love it... no offense taken....my posts are along the lines of a Kerouac inspired stream of consciousness with no particular emphasis on grammer and certainly not correcting typing mistakes!!!! Please remember also I am a UWM graduate and took something like 30 credits of BS English courses like Sports and Literature to pad the old GPA Ha Ha!!! back in the day!!!!

Tim Miles to Nebraska. Terrific hire by them. Far more accomplished than Jeter.

Worst news I've heard all day! I was hoping Jeter would land this job.

Since nobody wants the Illinois job, maybe he'll get a call from them.

There's seemingly some pressure for IL to hire a/their first minority candidate but Jeter would probably qualify as their 20th candidate.

I guess Duquesne wasn't satisfied with the level at which the program was "competing." Two CBI's and an NIT in five years weren't satisfactory for a program that hadn't seen any post-season since the NIT in 1994. And this was a coach who replaced a guy who went 3-24 his last year! I'm not sure Rob Jeter would be on their short list even if they could afford him.

Duquesne made a huge mistake....the fact that they compete every year (not sure what that means) shows that they will always have the potential in any one given year to somehow win a big game and to break through to the NCAA. This is all a program needs to keep a coach on board indefinitely and ad infinitum....by looking to replace it is obvious the program will automatically step backward and to go ground zero as the odds are that there are no other coaches or less than 50% chance anyone else out there could possibly do better.... better even if status quo goes on that way forever not to take a chance and do better....pardon the sarcasm - if Rob were not here this would be a perfect place to work for the just departed Duquense coach.

Why don't all you whiners grow a sack and call Rick Costello instead of pissing and moaning on a message board?
Make your case, and bring your checkbooks. If you can't do either, stfu.

STFU? If I didn't know any better, I'd think you were entering the gutter with those of us in talk-radio, message board land.
