Jeter can make as many adjustments against that Ally-Oop all he wants if Tony isn't going to watch/guard his man on the back door screen it will happen over and over.
This was another game where we didnt get going early and Kaylon tried to take it over and carry the load, he just couldn't do it tonight alone.
Or as I joked about on the ride home.
I BLAME THE BAND.

It was also stunning that Milwaukee was the only school not to send a band. It was embarrassing having to listen to Valpo play a (not very good) taped version of the fight song over and over. On a positive note, I thought the dozen or so students did an oustanding job of cheering on the team. They made more noise for most of the game than all of the Butler fans did. Well done! I wish the university and team had the same enthusiasm last night.

There's no way the band could have made it, both the symphony and university bands had a concert that night. And that's about 90% of the pep band right there

Whatever the case may be, it just doesn't look good when the largest school in the conference can't even organize a band to attend the most important game of the year.
Maybe we should have asked the Youngstown State band to stay behind and play for us.
As some of us said last night, maybe those who run the band are in league with the Wisconsin Center District.

No more band talk. Whoever let the band schedule a concert during the HL Tourney needs to be released from their duties at the University. Period. This is the only time all year that they are asked to travel with the team. It should be mandatory. Especially when none of the other bands in the conference pay their band members to pay and show up. It's just adding insult to injury after last nights outcome.
As for the fan bus... I was proud of all of the students who went. They were loud and into the game the whole time. The unfamiliar faces cheered just as much as the regulars. That is one positive to build on. Too bad the students employed by the Athletic Department that were on the bus as "chaperones" still thought they were too good to cheer with the students, and sat in the rafters.

It's not even difficult. Just because you grossly overpaid for Jeter, doesn't mean you have to overpay the next coach. Green Bay is about to surpass Jeters program for the 2nd time with a coach making $180,000. Bring in rising star John Tharp. You will no longer need your bloated recruiting budget. Cut it in half, which would make it the same as Green Bay's and still more than YSU's. Tharp will recruit Wisconsin and Illinois HS talent. He won't rely on short term JC fixes, which has a UWM in constant recruiting mode. Re-allocate those funds to help pay the coach. Tharp almost beat Milwaukee with his budding D2 powerhouse, he'd do amazing things with your program. All you'll have to raise is an additional $130,000 a year for 4 years. If I'm not mistaken, Jeter's making between $400k-450k per year. On the low end, that's $1.6M over the next four years we'd have to pay for him to not be here. I'm not sure what the assistants are getting or how much longer their contracts run but regardless of what the next coaching staff costs per year we don't have the funds to pay for both.

The problem is that in order to be in the pep band, their members have to be in an ensemble group before hand. Maybe if that requirement is changed in order to open it up to all and so that people who want to play at games can without worrying about a prior arrangement. Plus, the music department has had concerts during the HL tournament weekend for the last few years so one would have to talk with them about the dates. This university is still disconnected between departments in many, many areas.

I understand that Jeter will most likely not be fired this year, but he needs to be told that he is not meeting expectations for the program and that improvement is needed is he wants to be the coach much longer (especially at the salary he is being paid). The excitement for the program is gone and must be regained if we want to increase the fan base, let alone build a new arena. Agreed. Costello should hold Jeter to his contract and I was glad there wasn't an extension given to him after Bradley, PSU & Miami came around. Time will tell if he'll warrant an extension.

One call, that's all. Bruce Pearl. Gruber has his number. Costello should get it and make a phone call. Coach Jeter is a good man, but he has plateaued at Milwaukee. Three embarassments against Butler in the HL tourney, including one at home, in a row does nothing positive for our program.
No school in Division 1 can show greater cause to hire Bruce than us. I say if Jeter leaves, let's do it. I know my friends in the student section will snicker when they read this just like they do when I say it, but I stand by my opinion.

Not sure why you're even bothering with this garbage. Coach Jeter's going to be here until he decides to leave, so get used to it. That's the reality.

Bruce Pearl is toxic and would be awful for this program.

Bruce Pearl is toxic and would be awful for this program. Were you born in 2006? Or perhaps under a rock from 2002-2005? Get real.
