Someone on JSonline keeps bringing up Bob Semling at UWSP. His resume reminds me a lot of a coach who built our modern program and another who brought us greatness.

What am I saying? We can't afford to buy out any contracts.
Back to reality.

Being at the game, that was awful. I hate Butler and hope they lose to Valpo tonight, but they out played us, out coached us, we did everything wrong. As for Jeter I have mixed feelings on him, but he showed no emotion at all during the game, and that reflected on the team.

Best of luck to Coach Jeter in his inevitable flirtation with Southern Illinois and Nebraska. Saw those rumors, too. I would think those teams would second-guess that after seeing another one of the patented offensive meltdowns that are customary here over a dozen times/year. A supposed strength of our team - the size of our frontline - was thoroughly abused last night. No fair-minded person can say this wasn't a step back from last year. With the pieces returning and new guys coming in - on top of the HL being wide-open - not even making the tourney semis is pretty sad. I'm sure next season we'll win 18 or 19 games and get bounced in the quarters or semis again. After 7 years here, the body of work is enough to sum up Rob Jeter's program: good enough to not get fired and not good enough to make the NCAA's. No risk, no reward.

nohopspanther: SO, you are willing to buy out Jeter , go through 4 losing seasons, to get a coach who goes 2-6 with no guarantee that he will be healthy enough to coach a winning program for any length of time. Well I am not. . For a chance to escape having 25+ years of anonymity, you're damn right I'm willing to take that chance. Maybe you would enjoy the irrelevancy of Goofer football and see that as a good aiming point for what would be the certain death of Panther athletics. By the way, since you're so fond of Glen Mason and his success, why has there not been a single school willing to name him head coach since he was fired?

I'll be surprised if Butler doesn't win this tournament and at least a game in the NCAA's. They peak at money time and have a coach who is better than the opponent's pretty much every time out there. These guys are supremely confident and that is a result of playing for a winner in Stevens.

I've been a broken record with this topic since no one can answer the question (I think going on 3 years now) so let's keep the streak going!
HOW is the athletic dept going to afford to fire Jeter & staff and pay another simultaneously?
I look forward my answer falling onto deaf ears and thick skulls yet again...

None of these are stupid stats. This guy could practically write his own check from any BCS program in the country with an opening.

Just because you grossly overpaid for Jeter, doesn't mean you have to overpay the next coach. Green Bay is about to surpass Jeters program for the 2nd time with a coach making $180,000. Bring in rising star John Tharp. You will no longer need your bloated recruiting budget. Cut it in half, which would make it the same as Green Bay's and still more than YSU's. Tharp will recruit Wisconsin and Illinois HS talent. He won't rely on short term JC fixes, which has a UWM in constant recruiting mode. Re-allocate those funds to help pay the coach. Tharp almost beat Milwaukee with his budding D2 powerhouse, he'd do amazing things with your program. All you'll have to raise is an additional $130,000 a year for 4 years.

After seven years, I think it's hard to argue that Rob Jeter has taken us as far as he is capable of going. He'll win enough games to most likely get a home game in the conference tournament or maybe get to host it every now and then. Perhaps he'll get us into the NIT or lesser known tournament every few years. He won't be terrible like Ric Cobb but he'll never lead us to something special. He's a mediocre coach.
I know some people on this board are okay with this, but there are more people who want to be part of something special again. Unfortunately, we're not going to do this with Jeter. If we change coaches, there is a possibility that thing won't work out and the team will get worse, but there's also the possibility that the team can make it to the next level. Staying the course because "it could get worse", is accepting mediocrity. If that is the desired course, we may as well drop back to Division 2 and play at the Klotsche Center.
I understand that Jeter will most likely not be fired this year, but he needs to be told that he is not meeting expectations for the program and that improvement is needed is he wants to be the coach much longer (especially at the salary he is being paid).
The excitement for the program is gone and must be regained if we want to increase the fan base, let alone build a new arena.

The response of this board has been both predictable and amusing to an extent. Its like ive been given a front row ticket to a psychological experiment meant to confirm the that following a singular potentially season ending game, the masses will spring to the most convenient scapegoat possible. I'm sure the players had absolutely nothing to do with tonight's outcome. It wasn't that butler outplayed us, or that our players underplayed butler. It must be comforting to know that the solution to our programs problems is one man, coach jeter. Its just so simple...... Butler did outplay us. And Out-COACH us. We gave up a freaking alley-oop like 6 times. I've never seen so many in a game in my life. You think maybe Jeter could have made adjustments to stop that? +1 I've never seen that before in a Division 1 game!
