This whole conference sh*t the bed. There's no program that deserves this less than Detroit. PJ Boutte got drunk, kicked out of a bar, and was arrested trying to get back into the bar with a taser. Holman beat the sh*t out of three frat boys, breaking one's nose, because they had the gall to ask his teammate not to hang on a pipe in their basement. They have had several players leave the program in the last two years, several players fail to qualify academically. This is the program representing US in the NCAA Tournament? No thanks. So you would not have wanted the 2008 Milwaukee team to win the Horizon League and get an invitation tot he NCAA?

Did they have anyone chased down by police dogs? I agree they do it the wrong way, just surprised that kind of thing suddenly bothers you. You're wrong to suggest that it didn't bother us. Kids make mistakes and they should have to rectify the errors of their ways. You come in here with the attitude of someone who has ruled the Horizon League for years when your team has had nary a sniff of the Horizon League Championship since the mid-90s. Pump the brakes a little bit "GB BB is back". You haven't won anything yet. I am fully aware that many Milwaukee fans are disappointed with the off the court stuff, and was referring directly to the poster of that message. If it sounds like I was calling out all Panther fans, that was not my intent. I realize we haven't danced in too long, but I didn't mention our program in my post. I don't come here to troll, just to take part in some good basketball discussion. If you really want to bring up our program, I could go on all day about our excitement for our direction, but I'd rather not do that on your board. Maybe I'll change my user name since it seems to bother some here.

Preseason poll? Wouldn't be surprised a bit if it was ...
1, Valparaiso 2, Butler 3, Detroit 4, Youngstown State 5, Green Bay 6, Milwaukee 7, Cleveland State 8, Wright State 9, UIC 10, Loyola

Milwaukee will likely be preseason 6th or 7th. Hope my expectations are exceeded. i could live with being picked 6th or 7th in the preseason. Where was Youngstown State picked preseason to finish in 2011-12?
It's not where you start. It's where you finish. Detroit finished strong this season.

No disrespect GB BB. I was under the impression you were bad-mouthing our program when I happen to think Rob does a tremendous job of holding his players accountable.
In regards to your name, I just thought you were being awfully aggressive in a couple posts when you hadn't won a thing yet. With that said, I appreciate your passion and welcome your discussion to our board. I always enjoy a good debate particularly when it involves Horizon League basketball.
You have every right to be excited about the direction your program is headed. You have young talent, athleticism, a good young coach and a talented recruiting class. Best of luck moving forward, but may you forever be the 2nd best Horizon League team in Wisconsin.

And I wouldn't use YSU as a barometer for exceeding expectations ... they were picked 7th. And Detroit was picked 2nd in the preseason. They finally got their crap together.

We all want it to happen now, but it's a damn tough thing to do in a perennial one bid league where 90% of the teams end the season outside the tournament. Multi-NCAA bid Years for Horizon League: 1989 1990 1993 1995 1996 1998 (Three teams) 2003 2007 2009 So in 23 years, the H League (let's put aside the many differences between the league in the 90s and in the 00s) sent 33 teams to the tournament. Assuming that the league was always about ten teams, that means that on the average, 86% of the teams in any given year don't go dancing. Frankly, the fact that the league has sent more than one team (and in no case more than two) to the tournament only three times in the last 14 years makes it pretty clear that it is, in fact, a perennial one bid league. By the way, I await the howls of rage from the Valpo fans to get rid of Bryce Drew. Yeah, he may have won the league regular season title, but he did it with Homer's players -- and he couldn't get it done in the title game. Unacceptable!

Actually it was probably a little too sarcastic. I respect the opinions expressed about our coaching. None of us can truly predict the future. I still believe we have a coaching staff dedicated to and capable of getting us conference championships and NCAA appearances. Others do not, and they certainly have a right to that opinion.
But I do strongly believe that everyone should recognize that in our league it is VERY hard to get to the tournament, much less to get there regularly. It's not like the Big Ten or the Big East where going one game over .500 is an automatic invitation, and where you have immense facility and donor infrastructure advantages at every school. Sometimes I think the craziest people in the college coaching profession are mid-major coaches, because their fans want that ultimate prize absolutely as much as the fans of the high majors do, but the opportunity to get there is so much more difficult.

I think Valpo needs to fire there staff right now it is unacceptable for them not to win with someone else's players. I mean for a guy not to win with the former coaches players is crazy its one of the easiest things to do in this league Jeter did it. If you can't sense thats sarcasm it is. This is a one bid league and with one bad game you are done. As far as the Jeter haters do you see anywhere on the Valpo board people calling for his head after losing in the championship game i.imgur.com/qBW4A.png

Valpo sold 500 less tickets for the title game, than they had on Saturday versus Butler. Yellow and brown, flush it down!
