This is something I take issue with. This is what I think.
If Marquette wants to count all of the games when Milwaukee was the Wisconsin State Teachers College or the Milwaukee Normal School, then Milwaukee should get to count its games against the Marquette Dental College.
So if it's 39-0, it's more like 45-3.
If you're more inclined to talk up the undefeated mark, then it should be 10-0, since that is the record played while both teams are D-I.
You beat the Panthers when we were an NAIA team? Big f**kin deal. I'd be embarrassed to include those in our number.
I've heard about how this 39-0 is second only to Colgate's ineptitude against Syracuse, which now sits at 45-0. Here's the thing, though. Colgate was a D-I school THE ENTIRE TIME they've played Syracuse.
Hanging your hat on 39-0 is like celebrating beating an intramural team 29 times. Be a f**kin man and call it 10-0. That preserves your precious undefeated record, and unlike the number you trot out, actually counts the games when we were a "real" program in D-I.
Some flawed logic here, let me explain why.
First, the official records are recognized by the NCAA. Has nothing to do with being a man, if you don't like what the records say then take it up with the NCAA. If you wish to challenge their manhood, then I'd suggest calling, writing, or emailing the folks in Indianapolis.
Second, your example of the Marquette Dental College is crazy. That would be like UW-M beating the History department team or the school of Journalism. The Dental College falls under the umbrella of the university. There is only ONE team that is representative of the university in an official athletics capacity, not each college within the university. So a win over the Dental college or the history department of the admissions officers playing during their lunch break isn't going to count. The NCAA realizes this, so do both schools. The notion is absurd on every level.
As for the games counting when you were NAIA or Division II or whatever, those are all consistent with how the NCAA recognizes official contests. I'm sorry you don't like it, that's just the way it goes. Does UW-M recognize wins against NAIA teams, DII teams. Are you going to throw away all those wins, including the one this year against Southwest State, a DII school? Of course not. Those are all official wins. They won't count for your RPI score (then again, they don't count against, either) but they are all officially recognized games in the record books by the NCAA.
In the end, it's not about whether Marquette wants to count those games. They are counted and recognized by the NCAA. It's not up to MU, complain to the NCAA.
