Oh no is right. The DUI is bad enough. His conduct is horrible.
Something tells me we'll see a lot of Shaq Boga this year.

Very, very disappointing. Ultimately I don't care what it means for our team. The program goes on. I just hate to see kids throw their chances away. Kaylon is a smart kid and he needs to focus on maturing and finishing his education, whether that includes basketball or not.

So much for recruiting only high quality kids. So, the first incident (other than Ricky getting a DUI in 2008) like this since the 07-08 season and all of a sudden, they aren't recruiting high quality kids? I know plenty of people are very disappointed right now, I know I am, but how about we just let things begin to run their course before jumping in with the sensationalized posts?

Between deciding to run and the fact that it was .228, barring some kind of colossal misunderstanding, he needs to go. Jeter needs to send the message that this isn't tolerated. Fran said it best, opportunity thrown away. Good luck to Kaylon getting his life together, but basketball for the Panthers should not be anywhere near a major priority for him.

Well. Allow me to play theoretical devil's advocate here:
Does anyone know if this is a first offense or a second? Because Jeter has a long history of taking players with legal and attitude problems and allowing them a second chance. He did it with Ricky after his DUI, and he did it with Avery after his huge attitude issues. Both players ended up as better teammates and people after Rob took them aside, made them sit out, and mentored them hard, and conceivably he could do the same here. (Obviously Torre Johnson is a different story.) Should Kaylon play this year regardless? No. But if he uses this as a springboard to make himself a better person, we maybe shouldn't be so averse to the idea of his return, even in a backup and/or non-scholarship role.
If it's not a first offense though, then goodbye and so long.

There's obviously no perfect way for coaches to supervise players, particularly in the summer, and particularly with young men who are already adults, like Kaylon, but there's a good reason coaches prefer players to spend their summers on campus, working out and staying within the team community. As much as anything it's mutual supervision, with your teammates helping to steer you away from trouble, or at least sometimes taking the keys from you.
I have spoken with Kaylon several times in the last year, and like I said, he is a smart kid. I'm sure not going to excuse him for some very stupid decisions, but I hope he gets his act together. He was never going to play in the NBA, but he might have had an opportunity to play somewhere after college, and he is certainly smart enough to get a degree and make a productive life for himself if he commits to doing it. It's just so frustrating to see young men make such bad choices.
