According to Adam Zagoria, Coach Jeter is at Miami today for an interview. Just saw that too. Also saw that Eichorst said he'd consider Frank Martin. Seems that it's going to be one or the other. UM needs a coach, NOW, given recruiting season. UM will have one by Monday. Big question is, will we? At the same time, if RJ leaves, I'll wish him luck. He's done many good things (and some not so good, if not frustrating things) here. We'd likely lose Shaq and JJ. But, I have no doubt Rick will get his guy and get things going quickly. (Gard?) But for now, we'll just have to sit back and wait to see what happens.

This would be a tough pill to swallow if he leaves. After we survived the Bradley scare, I thought we were safe. Now all of a sudden we are at risk of losing not only our coach, but possibly JJ and Shaq??
Rob Jeter is one of the classiest people I've met, and I only hope Miami has their eye set on someone else. It would be a shame to lose him, especially after a great season like this.

The way I see it, if Jeter doesn't leave this year, assuming we have a good 2011-12 season, he's gone next year. the timing this year would be tough because of recruiting - no time for a replacement to get in and get ANYONE, really. But if not this year, this would happen 11+ months from now. As a mid-major (and yes, we are a mid-major), we'll lose our coach every 4-6 years, and that's not a bad thing.

You're jumping to way too many conclusions. Rob hasn't left yet, and even if he does that doesn't necessarily mean that JJ and Shaq aren't coming. And if he doesn't leave this year, that also has little or no bearing on whether he leaves after next season.
As to coaching turnover, as I said the other day, it's almost always a question of when, not if. And it's just as true at the high major level as at the mid-major level. Out of 350 or so D1 teams, it wouldn't surprise me if you told me only 20 or 25 coaches have been at their current schools for at least the last ten seasons.

Just got a message from Jeff Goodman of Fox Sports that Rob will probably be meeting with Miami's new AD in Madison tonight or tomorrow. Adam Zagoria's report regarding his "source" was incorrect. Still, Coach will be meeting with Miami at some point. That much is certain.

I recognize I'm being speculative. But, if Jeter leaves, I'd say it's doubtful that his recruits come to UWM. As you know, when a coach leaves, the players that signed LOIs almost always ask to be released from them (Arkansas being an extreme exception, as pointed out by Andy Katz). Also, while I agree that the vast majority of programs have coaching turnover, my point was directed specifically towards mid-majors. A mid-major program should pretty much expect a new coach every 4-6 years - it's an indication of program success. There are exceptions (Few, Les, Stevens), but more times than not, a mid-major's coach will leave for "greener" pastures, if that coach is successful. That's not a bad thing, IMO.

While it often happens that recruits waver when coaches leave, this is where your mid-major point comes into play. You usually hear of that happening at the high-major level, and generally those kids have a lot of attractive options. Shaq and JJ both have other very good reasons to want to play at Milwaukee. I'm sure that in a scenario where Rob left (which I still doubt will occur) they will at least want to see who his replacement is before making any decision.
This is a good job. If/when Rob goes we will have good candidates. A winning tradition in a very good mid-major league at a big University in a great city, and with a new, energetic athletic director. I think Rob's done a great job and I certainly don't want him to leave -- but we'll be alright, regardless. Our last three coaches have been winners. There's no reason to think that will change.

Clayton Hansen (spelling?) followed Bo, Ryan Childress followed Pearl. No reason to believe these kids stay at UWM should Rob leave. Personally, I don't think Rob is leaving.

No clue about the freshmen, but no matter what happens to Jeter, Haarsma is staying put.

I'd consider Bid as a replacement.

We're going to be fine.
My first call would be to Matt Graves. If he's interested, offer him the job.
There's no sense in undergoing the dog-and-pony show conducted by Green Bay last spring.
By the way, I don't expect Evan Richard or J.J. Panoske to go anywhere, either.

I'd consider Bid as a replacement. A token interview, yes. A serious candidate, no.

I'd consider Bid as a replacement. A token interview, yes. A serious candidate, no. Agreed, IMO we need a coach w/ experience, not the chance for another few years of growing pains.

If we were going to hire from within I'd rather have Duffy, although he's even more introverted than Jeter.
