With Eichorst getting the AD job, Jeter will be interviewed. They know eachother very, very well. If offered, I would be shocked if Jeter turns Miami down. Really? I would be shocked if Miami finds their head coach before SEVERAL potential candidates turn the position down. There is a reason their old coach got a better job elsewhere after making the NCAA tournament only once in 7-8 years. Great football job, and a horrible basketball job. Then again money talks... Kinda like Tennessee. Like Bradley and Dayton, this is something where Rob will have to weigh his options (of course assuming he gets an offer, which is still long down the road). Use this offseason as a tool. Look at why Rob might leave, and fix what's broken.

Eichorst is the AD?
Guys, the writing is on the wall. They may make a run.

Amaker turned down $1.1 million/year. That type of pay raise would be extremely hard for Jeter to turn down. And keep in mind Florida doesn't have a state income tax. Don't think for a second that's not a factor.

Jeter's not going. Same reason he didn't take Bradley job - the potential for better job in the future is much greater if he stays. Agreed. Signed, Dana Altman Brad Brownell Bruce Pearl Sydney Johnson

Yup. Here's another factor:
Jeter's got 16 years in the UW System payroll. Leave, and he still has four years to go to get to the 20-year mark and the pension.

If Rob leaves, I will wish him the best of luck and cheer on the Hurricanes.
In the meantime, there are plenty of qualified candidates available to sustain and improve upon our current run of success.
This would clearly be Rick's first large test as our new AD ... and I have to say that I've gotten a really good vibe from him to this point.
No sweat.

Yes, good point about the pension Jimmy.

Yes, good point about the pension Jimmy. It really is no small amount of money, especially when (if he stays here at current salary) he will have almost half of the 20 years at 400k.

I'm a state employee. I've been told by some HR staff that the pension after 20 years may be meaningless the way things are going. So I wouldn't expect a decision to be made on current pension rules that may change significantly in the next few years. There's a reason that almost all state employees I know who are eligible to retire are retiring. Things aren't going to be the same after July 1st and beyond.

"• Milwaukee's Rob Jeter has been contacted by Miami officials and is expected to hear about a possible interview soon, according to sources. Jeter didn't work with new Miami athletic director Shawn Eichorst at Wisconsin, but both know each other well through contacts in the state. Jeter had already gone to Milwaukee (from Bo Ryan's Wisconsin staff) when Eichorst was hired to be Barry Alvarez's assistant athletic director with the Badgers. Eichorst said he is taking control of the search. Let's see if that means Dan Parker's Atlanta-based search firm gets pushed to the back, instead of the front-row seat it had occupied earlier in the search." espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/blog/_/name/katz_andy/id/6345670/tommy-amaker-content-harvard

I forgot how much I loathed the coaching rumors when Pearl was around. This is no better. It's hard to get excited about next year when you don't know if your coach will be around... what happens to your recruits and existing team members if he bolts? Even though Miami isn't a great bball job, it's the ACC. And we all said Tennessee was a lousy bball job last time. Turned out to not be the case --- well, sort of...
It's inevitable at this level, but I was really hoping for this to be a "next year' problem. Guess we'll just have to wait and see what transpires.

My 16 year old son...who's a huge Panther fan....remarked if Miami want RJ, they'll offer $1 million plus per year over 4 to 6 years. How can you turn that down? Third child on the way........ That's going to be an offer that's going to be very difficult to refuse....if he's "THE" choice. Just his thoughts...but he could be dead on. Looking forward to the ballgame at MP on the 29th!! Go Panthers!!!

And keep in mind Florida doesn't have a state income tax. Don't think for a second that's not a factor. That fact gets mentioned a lot when talking money and the state of Florida. The fact of the matter is while the state income tax may be non-existent, the state also tacks on additional fees for anything and everything. So, while you're not paying taxes on income, you pay fees for things like using a public boat landing/using your boat on a public body of water, etc. Not saying it's not a factor, but there are other fees that make up for the non tax.

And besides that, you have to live in Florida.
Not my cup of tea.
