We better get use to this. It is like Groundhogs Day. There will be no coaching changes for the next few years. Not with the current contract. Which begs the question ... why doesn't he surround himself with better assistants? Cha ching +100000000, you let Rob get himself out of the mess he's made, force him to start over and reassess his entire staff (fire them) Maybe the humiliation of having to personally fire his hand picked staff will lower his demands on a buyout.... College Hoops is a business, it's time we get someone who treats it as such. (AD+HC)

Does anyone know how much we're paying the assistants?

Well regarding this season... let's please remember who we played tonight and where we played. There was a reason we were 20 point dogs.
Then again there also may be a reason that we are projected to go something like 12-18 per kenpom.com.
I guess I defeated my own purpose...... Lol.
But seriously- you guys know as well as I do that we can still make a run and salvage this season. FAU = Bad Loss, WMU = Bad Loss, Portland = Winnable game that we got blown out of. Other losses were against Wisconsin and Marquette.
Take away FAU and WMU and I highly doubt the D-Board would have the pitchforks out and be calling for Jeter's head.
Let's get real though. We are a Mid-Major. The road is always a lot tougher to travel and there are no shortcuts. We have to cook our food from scratch. We have the ingredients, but it seems we cannot figure out how the hell to mix them in the right proportions (or how to operate the oven in some cases).
I know- it's been 5 (going on 6) years of the Jeter era and we've only made the Dance once and had the "fortune" of sniffing the Dance (last season). You know dang well had we beat Butler we would have had a very good chance against Wright State- at least a much better chance than WSU had against Butler!
Fran said in another thread not to long ago- as much as we'd like to think otherwise, the Horizon League is likely going to be a 1-bid League again this season (unless Butler beats Xavier and Stanford and loses in the HL Tourney).
It sucks, but most pre-season rankings that had us 4th or so were probably close to accurate. I sure hope we finish better than 4th (ie. at least 2nd- for OBVIOUS HL Tourney reasons). The fact of the matter is, we will not go to the Big Dance if we don't win our league Tourney. Let's focus on doing everything we can in the next 20 games to get ready for THAT.
I agree our offense needs to run more smoothly (and we need to dribble and pass the ball with more control). When we are playing teams that play good defense (ie. Cleveland State, Wisconsin) the ball seems to just get stuck after the top-of-the-key ball screen. We should give teams other looks- especially when we see things aren't working.
Wisconsin doesn't score a lot, but our defense was not terrible tonight. If it was as bad as our offense, UW would have scored 75-80. Meier continues to impress, Ja'Rob is emerging as the shooter we hoped Tone would be (where has tone been for the past 3 games?).
I said before this game that if we played loose we might make something out of it. We played tighter than a drum tonight. It was sad to see only Ja'Rob McCallum and Tony Meier really showed up to battle tonight. We have so many other guys...
The season isn't over. This is a sour/rough patch. But we have time to win a lot more games. I was hoping we could dominate this season, but we didn't even come close to dominating last season (10-8 in conference). I think we should all take a deep breath, realize that we lost to some good to very good teams (other than FAU and WMU), and hope against hope for a turnaround and that we are at our best in March 2011.
It's easy to poach from the sidelines. That's why we do what we do I guess.

Jesus Christ. I'd rather have a small, loyal fanbase than a bunch of bandwagon-jumpers who can't think logically. THIS

I believe the upper assistants were 70-80K and others were 40-60K. Someone already tried to makes changes to his assistants and then the rumor mill got fired up.

I think Koonce coldly made the ultimatum that he fire his assistants or get canned himself, which amounts to blackmail and drew intense criticism from the donors. Although I admit to not being as in the loop about that as others, and I could be wrong.

If I were Green Bay, I would be ready for them, Milwaukee has already threatened two top 20 teams so far...

I believe it was let go one assistant from Men's and one assistant from Women's because Carlos was telling Koonce to save money...
All in all, something needs to change with this team because none of us want to see losers in the most visible sport on campus.

Mentality is what needs changing. Attitude. When they play with purpose, they play well. When they expect to win or expect to lose, they play poorly. Jeter needs to buy a bullwhip.

Jesus Christ. I'd rather have a small, loyal fanbase than a bunch of bandwagon-jumpers who can't think logically. If you're claiming McCallum, Hill, Boyle, Meier, Boga, et al aren't talented players you're out of your mind. Stop overreacting. Hell, we're on the heels of a 20-win season. Ricky and James weren't the only players on that team. Let's have some perspective. This is the hilarious part of this board.....disagree and you are a bandwagon fan. The whole board is having a leave of their senses.

At this point the bandwagon fans will fit in a radio-flyer wagon.

That is pretty funny nohops (seriously). LOL. But I do think we still control our own destiny.
We will either wind up 12-19 or 20-13.
