From an outsider's point of view, I think xtownfan has done a nice job of calmly explaining Marquette's point of view. As fans of mid-major teams, we may not like the situation, but it's the reality that our teams deal with in putting together a schedule.
Given the current financial situation of UWM's athletic department, I find it ironic that you're telling Marquette how to run their business. The whole "they have plenty of money, so they shouldn't mind handing some of it to us" argument may make sense to you, but college basketball is big business and successful programs are run by capitalists, not socialists.
On the recruiting impact, a Marquette loss (or two or three) to UWM wouldn't have a significant impact on recruiting. It may help UWM, but kids aren't going to suddenly pick UWM over Marquette. Butler has been the most successful program in Indiana for 10 years and holds winning streaks against IU, Purdue and ND. But when it comes to recruiting, kids still pick those schools for reasons other than success on the court ... facilities and conference/schedule being the biggest ones.

I'm sorry, but this I totally agree with. Anybody who thinks Marquette should play us because they already have enough money has lost their marbles.

Overall, yes, like any situation. If someone doesn't want anything to do with you (Marquette or Wisconsin), then so be it. But on the otherhand, I don't think the negotiations should be flip-sided as to who calls the shots based on prestigue and financial backing. As to response of fans at the game last Saturday. I can say that Marquette fans surely remind me alot of Cubs fans at the brewers game. When I went to rest room at the Cell, all you heard was: "At the BC there are more stalls or this place is outdated"...etc. Mind you, the people in the restroom didn't have to wait in line for anything and the RR at the Cell were pretty clean anyways. There was even a Marquette fan swearing all night in front of me with several kids and the parents ask him nicely to please watch what he says and he still kept up. You can call it booz or carelessness. but I do have to say there was atleast one issue in every crowd I was around. just callin it as I saw it.

UW has way more money to burn, yet we never hear this kind of passionate argument when UW doesn't give us a 2-1. A bit of a double standard here. OK for UW to "screw" us but not MU? If I'm MU why not negotiate the same deal as UW.

Blah, blah, blah. You guys are beating the issue dead. Get over it.
Marquette will act in their best interest. They should! Nothing we can do about it as random fans on a discussion board. Its entirely up to Marquette.

The game is over, there is nothing more to "discuss." The ADs and coaches will ignore the ranting of the hyper-partisans and extend the series, as they should, because it's good for Marquette and good for Milwaukee -- and not just in the obvious ways.
Let's play Youngstown.

Personally I think they get a free pass because they were willing to play us, we have played them in every season since the 1992-1993 season where were we beat them. Both Bo and Bruce were begging MU for a game and they just ignored us. Either way the game is done we got one more year with MU and hopefully they can reach a fair deal and continue the series. Onto Youngstown and the start of the conference season.

The only people on here who give the badgers (vadgers) a pass are also big badger fans. Anyone free of bias can see what PantherLou just said is clearly the case, so lets wait and see what kind of deal gets struck before we start flipping out. Even though we sold out when Wisconsin was in town, if given the same deal again, I would really like to see that series scrapped and a new one started with someone else.

I was listening to the "Green and Gold Extra" on 540am today with Bill Johnson as one of the hosts. They somehow got into a short discussion of the UWM/UW game tomorrow and briefly mentioned the UWM/MU game in there.
Long story short, Bill said that the "reports out there" say UWM and MU are on the verge of agreeing to a 2-1 deal. But there is no official word yet about it.
Does anyone have any knowledge to this? That would be a great victory for UWM and would really earn Buzz much respect from this Panther fan/Marquette hater.

Give it a little time. And give your respect to Buzz AND Steve Cottingham. They will lose MU fans respect (Buzz and Cottingham) if they agree to a 2 for 1.
