Yes, that's right, rail against someone's alleged personality traits when they make an argument or statement based on fact, that's an effective technique!

How does this sound...
When my dad tells people he graduated from Marquette on the coasts, they ask him where and what it is.When my Mom mentions she graduated from UW-Madison,people know what she's talking about.

Pantherholic...your memory needs to be refreshed then. UW has 2 Final Fours in their history and one title (Marquette 3 Final Fours). The title came when only 8 teams went to the dance..1941...meaning 1 win got you to the final four and 3 wins the championship. MU has a championship as well....when color television was actually invented. MU, meanwhile has 24 NCAA appearances (UW has 12), MU has 39 post season appearances total (9th in NCAA history), MU has 3 Final Fours (UW 2), MU has 6 Elite Eights (UW 3), MU has 14 Sweet 16's (UW has 4). Please, the comparison between the two is laughable on a national scene. Get outside your Wisconsin mindset and your bias. Your memory needs a refresher. And yes, UW does sell out their arena...it's Madison...40000 students, alumni all over the capital and nothing else to do. No pro sports to compete with, nothing. They should be selling out every game, what the hell else is there to do in Madison in January other than watch the nightly police blotters for the next UW football, basketball or hockey player that gets arrested and "suspended" from practice for a punishment. yep, i was unaware of the 3rd Final 4 appearance. i only knew of your championship season and in '03. its cute how your splitting hairs to separate MU's and UW's championship seasons. unfortunately no one seems to care besides you and/or other MU fans. its still a national championship, no matter when it was won. advantage still doesn't go to you. as far as Madison's reasons for selling out tix all season, don't use the excuse of "alumni all over the capitol". its not like one can count the # of MU alumni in the greater Milwaukee area on one hand. whether they choose to care about following the bball team or not is the question. for example, we can agree that UWM's student enrollment on a yearly basis is much larger than MU's however your school draws larger student crowds. one can make the argument that more MU students choose to follow the program on a more regular basis than many of our students. same can go w/ alum.

Well, obviously if you say, "I went to the University of Wisconsin" to the casual observer, they would know where the state of Wisconsin is (or at least I would hope they do), and therefore not inquire more about your school. That just makes sense. Now in a college basketball sense, however, if you found a college bball fan that didn't know of Marquette then they're not really a college bball fan, esp. with us being in the Big East now.

Coldwind...when people out here on the coast say they graduated from Tufts, Johns Hopkins, Northwestern, Columbia, Dartmouth, Xavier, Gonzaga, Santa Clara, Georgetown, Drexel, Marist, Rice, Tulane, etc, etc, .... most people don't know where those schools are either. I'm pretty sure that 99% of the country would know that if you graduated from the University of Texas that it's likely to be in Texas. Same for Wisconsin...I'd think it's in Wisconsin.. Same for the U. of Maryland...likely to be in Maryland...don't you think? Funny how that works.

Pantherholic, there are more UW-Madison alumni in Milwaukee then there are Marquette alumni in the entire state of Wisconsin. Most students go elsewhere (I'm here in Los Angeles...exhibit 1). Now if you think at 1941 NCAA basketball title is just as good as a 2006 basketball title then you're free to think that way. I don't think our 1977 title is as good as today's. Today you must win 6 games. Back when Wisconsin won it all, you had to win 3 and take down the peach baskets after every make. But hey, we're all entitled to our opinions. Happy 4th of July.

Why argue about UW and MU? The issue is UWM and MU.
Does MU have a richer BB history then the Panthers do? Yes. Is the Panther's recent history richer than MU's? Yes again.
The facts in this whole situation are equally obvious. There was no deal offered before our seven seniors graduated. If there had been Crean certainly would have said something earlier and even HE isn't claiming that it was on the table before now.
It is also obvious that the deal is unfair to the Panthers. It's not equal to what we have with UW and if we accept it, you can bet UW will come back and demand the same terms. That would mean a loss of revenue we can't afford to have.

I like how you all are quick to point out that you, now in the Big East, are bigger and better than before. I'm sure Travis Diener and Dwyane Wade are happy you think of their Marquette in the Conference USA as lesser than today. And before any of you Marqueers point out that this deal has been on the table for a year and a half, why didn't Tom Crean tell the media about the deal back then? Basically, this deal has NOT been on the table.

You'd be suprised how many people on both coasts have no clue where Wisconsin is, especially the East Coast (Northeast to be specific) it always has been and always will be a fly over state.

yeah, aknowsense is right, I was in Baltimore a little over a year ago and a lot of people thought Milwaukee was in Minnesota, near Minneapolis. A couple people even thought it was the other twin city with Minneapolis. East coast ppl aren't real bright (at least geographically speaking).
The deal was on the table? I don't know but if it was, Tom Crean must love having his name dragged through the mud. Its awfully convenient that "there was a deal, we just never heard about it". Seems kind of like when you hear a guy say he's got a girlfriend in Canada, you can't proove they're wrong, but something's fishy.
Good for Bud & RJ not hopping on the 4-1 deal. Deals like those are what would make Milwaukee a prennial mid-major. If this program ever becomes nationally respected, they need to demand better deals than this one. Also, they need to change whatever it is that has ESPN calling us Wisconsin-Milwaukee and putting Wisc.-Mil. in the scoreboard. That's just embarrassing. Replace both of them with UWM.

True Story:
When I was in school, we had a big game against St. Peter's. St. Peter's was ranked 22nd at the time and it was the opening game for both schools. Their school President held a pre-game party and our SID's wife was asked how early she has to get up in the morning. She said something like 8:00 and this St. Pete's prof's wife said "Oh I thought the cows were milked much earlier than that. You must have farm hands for that then." The SID's wife replied "Oh yes, we need them to allow my husband to hunt for food before he has to go to work."
We won the game by like 23 points.

Milwsport, I'd be interested to know your definition of recent. For me it would be about 5 years, so let's review the recent history of both programs (let's go back to say... 2000-2001 season) Marquette:
2000-2001: Record: 15-14 (9-7 CUSA)
2001-2002: Record: 26-7 (13-3 CUSA) NCAA Tournament Appearance
2002-2003: 27-6 (14-2 CUSA) CUSA Regular Season Champions NCAA Final Four Wooden Award Nominee Dwyane Wade Drafted 5th in the NBA Draft Tom Crean named Claire Bee Coach of the Year
2003-2004: 19-12 (8-8 CUSA) NIT Quarterfinals
2004-2005: 19-12 (7-9 CUSA) *Travis Diener injury year NIT First Round Travis Diener Taken in NBA Draft
2005-2006: 20-11 (10-6 Big East) NCAA Tournament Appearance Steve Novak Taken in NBA Draft
Cumulative Record of 126-62 (.670 win. pct.) Postseadon Appearances: NCAA: 3; NIT: 2 Farthest Advanced in Postseason: Final Four NBA Draftees: 3 Wooden Award Finalists: 1
Now let's look at UWM: 2000-2001: 15-13 (7-7 Hor.)
2001-2002: 16-13 (11-5 Hor.)
2002-2003: 24-8 (13-3 Hor.) Horizon League Tourney Champs NCAA Tournament Appearance
2003-2004: 20-11 (13-3 Hor.) NIT Appearance
2004-2005: 26-6 (14-2 Hor.) Horizon League Tourney Champs NCAA Sweet Sixteen Appearance
2005-2006: 22-9 (12-4 Hor.) Horizon League Tourney Champs NCAA Tournament Appearance
Cumulative Record of 123-60 (.670 win. pct.) Postseason Appearances: NCAA: 3; NIT: 1 Farthest Advanced in Postseason: NCAA Sweet Sixteen NBA Draftees: 0 Wooden Award Finalists: 0
I'll let the stats speak for themselves, but I certainly beg to differ that UWM's recent history has been richer by any means. If anything it's close to being equal with Marquette's, the only trump MU has is the Final Four and Dwyane Wade, and the only possible claim UWM has is the Sweet Sixteen and Conference Tourney Championships. In my book, MU wins, esp. with the 3 draftees and Final Four.

Dwyane Wade is amazing. Not only has he carried Tom Crean, Wade is burdened with the weight of Marquette's recent history.
Here is a stat from recent Marquette history. NCAA wins without Dwyane Wade-0

Don't forget the great Dwayne Wade was part of the loss as a #5 seed against the powerhouse #12 Tulsa.
