1) as an empolyee of miller park there will be no such tourney of any sort in the stadium. i have always been a supporter of it but i've come to the realization that it will probably never happen. grounds crew b1tch constantly about the turf, concerts freak them out enough. Okay this has nothing to do w/this thread but it reminded me has anybody taken a look at the Phoenix Cardinals new stadium? The whole field moves out of the stadium to get sun and have concerts/final 4's it's brillant...... You can watch the time lapse of the field being put together here. www.azcardinals.com/stadium/detail.php?PRKey=960

I feel your pain, Rick, as I went through a full season (minus the HL tourney ;D ) trying to catch games on the net whenever possible. Don't forget the time difference, either, that's the worst part. I lost count of how many nights I only got 3-4 hours of sleep because the games started at 0300 hours here and I had to get up by 0230 to make it to the internet cafe on time. And oh yeah, $5.00 an hour... In the end it was all well worth it to witness yet another tremendous season! And thanks for the kind words, chicos, all us service members really appreciate them. I'm sorry I was more than a bit snippy and harsh in my previous posts in this thread, I've been pretty stressed out the last few days, but that's no excuse. Perhaps in a few months we can continue to discuss our "friendly disagreement" over a few beers at Goolsby's (if you're in town), prior to watching Milwaukee bring their all-time D-I record against Marquette to 1-6.

One question guys....has this deal been finalized yet??? I haven't heard anything.....
I was up in the Green Bay area last weekend, and the local news station (channel 2) said they interviewed poor mans coach k and he said that talks have started but they are far off on agreeing to anything....then the sports anchor (right before the commercial break) said something to the effect that .." it sounds like someone in milwaukee is trying to use the media to pressure schools into signing a lop-sided contract.... I got a chuckle after he said that...cuz if the Green bay fans/media feels that way...how should UWM fans feel...

Game? Series? Deal? So much as has been (and written) on this topic over the last few days and I frankly have no idea what any of this is about. If you enter ANY of the following key words on the Press Gazette Web site: UWGB, Marquette, UW-Green Bay, it immediately directs you to the archives (more than seven days). As for Conference-USA, rest assured that it wasn't a mid-major back when Cincinnati, Louisville and Marquette claimed admission in the league. Rest equally assured that it is today. Memphis is the Gonzaga of that league.

There are discussions going on, but according to a very credible source, both sides are well apart. FWIW, I do not blame Marquette at all for the way they are handling this. They are trying to get the best possible deal for themselves, and trying to get the most favorable PR out of this as possible. At the same time, UWM is doing the same thing - trying to get the best deal for our university as possible. Nothing wrong with this, its the way most negotiations take place. My problem is with the JS (and to a lesser extent) the local TV stations. The story here is that MU and UWM are considering options for a possible series[/i]. That's not the same as it being a done deal. Yet, it seems that the MU beat writer gets word from Tom Crean that a deal is in the works, and they run with it as gospel. Again, not Crean's fault...it's the fault of the JS (that means YOU, Garry Howard). I wonder what would have happened if Rob Jeter had called Bobbi and told her that we were going to start playing Marquette in a 1 for 1 or 2 for 1 deal? Would they have run with that?? EDIT: I can't spell

Even a faint whiff of the chance to play Marquette and topple our second-class status in our own home town will spark this kind of reaction.

Even a faint whiff of the chance to play Marquette and topple our second-class status in our own home town will spark this kind of reaction. beating MU won't topple anything. even if we'd sweep the entire series, i don't see that much changing. the only way to topple the "2nd-class status" is to win games, increased attendance, join a more recognized conference, more NCAA tourney success and bring in big-time recruits. we're on the right track w/ most of these aspects but it'll take more than 5 games over 5 years to accomplish this. in the meantime we need to do our part in donating, creating buzz for the team at work/with friends, and convincing graduating students and past alumni to buy season tickets. i know either i'll be purchasing some next summer or i'll be having an MU alum buy them for me although that option comes w/ some strings attached.

Heck, if you want to go down that train of thought think of another urban school that has only been around LESS than 50 years. Houston. What do they have, 5 Final Fours or something like that plus Cotton Bowl titles, Heisman trophy winners, etc. Pretty impressive for such a young school. Once again another MU post, and another blantant error in the facts. The University of Houston was founded in 1927. Even with MU math, you should be able to see that is far more than the "less than 50 years" you stated. In fact Houston played it's in first bowl game 5 years before UWM was even founded (the Salad Bowl on January 1, 1951.) Furthermore, it's the flagship campus of it's own system. That hardly compares with a school founded in 1956, as a very distant second to the UW-Madison flagship campus. But let's not confuse the issue with the facts huh?

It's like I said, Holic. Our second-class status in Milwaukee. I'm not talking about being a mid-major. I'm talking about being second to Marquette in the eyes of the town.

and that's what i'm talking about too. it'll take more than just a few games head-to-head.

Memphis is the Gonzaga of that league. UAB also went to the NCAAs. UTEP, HOUSTON to the NIT. Don't get me wrong, the conference now is nothing compared to what it used to be.
