Just a note: Those were the same officials from the UW game. The one that seemd to "pick on" Joah.... Thank the lord we came out with a W......I just hope we don't hit that crew on the road for a long time.... Not saying it was a close game because of the officials, cuz the calls were questionable on both sides...well atleast until the last 4 min. of the game.....
And what was up with Joah last night...yeah he had 20pts but he was making really stupid plays and seemed to be very sluggish. I hope he gets his head on straight for the up-coming road games!!

Don't any of you go to see the refs? I know I sure do.

While Joah may have gotten a bum call or two, I think that AT was the one who was really getting a bum whistle - last night at least.

How do they go from giving up 23 points in the first half to 52 in the second? Some random thoughts:
-There was so very, very sloppy D in the second half by the panthers. -Someone else mentioned it too, but it really looked like Loyola played better with Schlib on the bench. -Free throw shooting HAS to improve it could have cost us the game last night. -Al Hansen really seems to be improving and runs the offense very well when Hill is out. -When Massiah asserts himself in the offense something good tends to happen, too bad he really never does this. I think he is playing a role player more than he needs to be. -Seems like Smith and Young have regressed over the last several games. Smith seems to struggle just handling the ball when early in year he was fantastic with it. After the Montana game (I think or was it Wyoming?) when Young went for 10 I said alright here we go now he has it togeather and will get better but rather he has gone back to giving the team nothing.
I thought the crowd was very quiet last night, especially compared to the Butler game. No one got into the game until the last 60 seconds. Wonder if this has anything to do with Butler being more of a rivial than Loyola right now.
Does anyone else get the feeling that the team has gotten too comfortable at home? They have won 17 in a row and seem to get a 10 to 15 point lead by half and hold it for most of the second. Then all of a sudden, the other team cuts it to a few through sloppy play on both ends by us. They seem so much more focused on the road which is good, but if we get the conference tourny at the Cell this could be a deadly trap for the team if it is the case. Hopefully some large rocking crowds for the rest of the home games will keep the team up and playing well.

Way, way too much ground to cover in a single post. Of course, there were NBA scouts on hand (without question to watch both Blake and Joah) and so we get seven three-point attempts and nine two-point attempts from our favorite fadeaway jump-shooter. Fortunately, Joah hit four of the three-pointers, so his night wasn't a complete loss. In regards to the benching with 2:18 remaining, it's a tough call for a fan. Do you discipline a player for a lane violation and a missed dunk with a seven-point lead and 26 seconds left on the shot clock and jeopardize the outcome? For a coach, the call is a simple one: Rob is going to be here much longer than Joah and he absolutely has to set a precedent with the other players that he is in charge and won't tolerate mental letdowns. In essence, he was willing to take a risk.

Avery Smith tries to do too much with the basketball. I would imagine if he keeps dribbling to nowhere, Rob will eventually become fed up with this, as any coach should, and put him on the bench. Dribbling like that works in high school, and JUCO, but it does not fly in D1 basketball. Really hard to watch in games like last night. And I don't konw what Tyrone Young did against Montana, but he should really think about finding it again. Until then, shot selection should be limited.

I agree with Jeter's call. He has to think about next year and the younger guys on the bench. They will all be fighting for minutes next year. He has to let them know that no one is above his game plan. There can only be one guy calling the game plan. It has to be his way or no way.

Young needs to have a nickname. I say we call him "nothing" due to the fact that just about everytime he throws up that ball, that's what he hits.
I want to cry when he ends up with the ball. How the hell do you air out a shot five feet from the basket? Seriously...

Damasa, I don't know if we should go that harsh. Then again, I've nicknamed Avery Smith's shot "the sidewinder" due to its spin and amazing inaccuracy. ;D

(bare with me. I may be a bit rusty since this is my first post in nearly 2 months)
I'm liking that Jeter is making sure all know that he is in charge of the team and he has guidelines that must be followed. moreso than the Joah benching (we all saw that he couldn't keep up with Schlib and left him wide open numerous times), I liked what coach did with the bench players. as Loyola was heckled and warned like 90 times to sit down, Jeter had to just point to the seats and the team sat. I know every coach does that and all teams do as asked, but its nice to see when the other team is not listening.
overall, the guys are doing what they need to do to pull out a W, and thats what matters. personally, I think we played some of our best ball against Butler, and that was a nailbiter, which says something about Butler. once the Horizon Tournament comes along, I think our guys will have it together to limit mistakes. even if they don't, I think they play well enough to win games.
as for GB, damn I can't wait.

I am just very confused with Young. People here have claimed that he just tears it up in practice on offense and that he D was keeping him out of games. I fail to see much problem with his D (expect for on the press yesterday he was lost when he first got into the game). It seems rather its his offense that keeps him off the court. Shooting air balls, turning the ball over, lazy passes. How can such an offensive threat be such a non-factor.

How the hell do you air out a shot five feet from the basket? Seriously... IMO it seems like he's playing faster than he needs to. his release starts and ends before you can blink and it seems like he's still adjusting to the D-1 level. i'm getting annoyed though that he's not following my wish that he'd do a 360-Tomahawk jam from the FT line. am i REALLY asking for that much?! as far as avery, i still get worried when he's got the ball in his hands and that's not good if he's a PG. i've kinda nicknamed him *sigh* and "oh sh*t" for obvious reasons.

At the luncheon on Monday, RJ said he asked Young if he needs glasses. Young said no. RJ said "We'll see." Sounds like they want him to get his vision checked.
