well, i'm tired of reviewing the Butler posts so it seems time to move forward. this is an interesting matchup wednesday night. LU is reeling from their conference losses... as a result i could see this game going a couple of different ways. no doubt the Ramblers will come out swinging, but i'd like to believe after saturday's near shocker that Milwaukee got a wake up call without the "L." Jeter has plently to get on his team about. most notably, the total lack of bench support. hopefully that was just an aberration. we need Massiah, Young, and Avo to step it up. i hope we see a decent turn out wednesday night. we did ok last saturday but the student's presence was certainly missing. i know it's break but you'd sure like to see bigger numbers. i guess we got spoiled with all those large student turnouts during school. i think we'll play better on wednesday, the guys have a few days of rest. a little r&r can only benefit them. this game will either end up like Butler or UIC. i don't see this ending anywhere in between.

I agree. This team needed to rest. It was on the road the entire week two weeks ago, got back at 4 a.m. on New Years Eve ... and played a game two days later against CSU. Four games in eight days or five games in 11 days if you break it down -- three of them on the road.
I think you see a fresh team out there Wednesday ... now if the bench will just show up.

i agree... i expect to see a better performance. my only concern is that we match LU's early intensity. you never can take a team lightly that needs a W as bad as they do. i'm just happy this game is at home.

UWM needs to have the Karate Kid approach ... when you see a wounded opponent, finish them. Sweep the leg, Milwaukee. Sweep the leg.

At the Luncheon today, Jeter seemed relieved to get through this part of the schedule. He even had the guys practicing on Christmas night and on New Year's Eve evening.
Oh and he mentioned that Butler has had a nice schedule. Going back to their win at South Dakota on December 28th, the Bulldogs play only 4 games in three weeks versus the Panthers playing 5 in 12 days..

That's not always good either... the guys from Butler could lose composure and mental toughness by being so spread out. The best is 2 games a week, IMO.

True and they will have to play games closer together later in the season to make up for it now, but then their students won't be on break at the time while ours were.

Yeah, Butler's only played two conference games and won't play their third until Saturday. In contrast, Milwaukee plays their fifth tomorrow. I'd certainly rather have more games out of the way, especially if I'd won them like Milwaukee has. Todd

And by Saturday, UWM will have six down ...
After Loyola, UWM goes on the road for 6 of the next 7 ... whether or not UWM runs away with the conference will be decided in that stretch.

It really sucks that we play this unbalanced sched. the past few years where the team plays a heavy home sched. in January then hits a big road strech at the end of Jan. and early Feb. I would imagine the players would love to play some serious home games in late Jan. and early Feb. in front of much larger crowds.

i think we need to follow group mentality here and say this is ALL Lecrone's fault. he obviously hates mid-majors and will stop at nothing to see them stay at the level they are at blah blah blah (insert rest of whining and b****ing rant here).

After the Loyola game we only have four conference home dates, one comes before the break is over, the other three are in the same week. That's hardly conducive to building up attendance.
As someone else pointed out this is like the norm for us. We always seem to have most of our big home games during the break, while another school seems to be able to avoid that.
I'd say that perhaps just the way the schedule worked out but I suspect there's some leeway here. If there is I hope Bud raises hell about it.

i'm fairly certain Bud has had this discussion before. i'm not sure what can be done. bottom line is if we want to become a bigger/better program we need students to show up in mass regardless of the break. you don't see bigtime school's suffering from this. they all have the breaks too. it's frustrating but again, it's all part of growing the program. really, the student section seems to be better filled this year during the break than past seasons. it starts out slim and then gradually fills as the games go on.
either way, we already have the best student section in the HL... we just all know that it could be much better on a regular basis.
