he would have easily started at UWM the last two years, which would have allowed AT and Joah to play the 4 and 3 positions that they really belong at anyway. Do you really think so? I just don't know......the reason that this years press was so much more effective was because our 5 man could get out and guard people and was active on the press. There is no way Butch has the footspeed or quickness to press like that. Look at our "big" lineup last year......when Nate and Dylan were in there, it just wasn't the same. That is not a knock on either one of those guys - because when they were in, we were a more effective half court team, but our press just wasn't the same as it was this year. McCoy is long, quick, and can press.......Ford, Butch, and the like cannot. I don't disagree that Butch would be decent in the post (even as he is today) in the HL, but on this years team, I don't think he would have gotten a lot of minutes.....whos minutes would he take? Chris.......no Ed......no Boo.......no AT......no Joah......no Our best lineup was with three guards, no doubt about that. I am not trying to be argumentative, but we have to "discuss" something until we have a new coach. haha

Ok, here's where I was going with the Brian Butch reference (I'll make some comments about him at the end). In HS, he was a McDonald's All-American. One of the most highly toughted (sp?) recruits in the state's history. He was being heavily recruited by Arizona, Kansas, UNC and UW. UNC people even had a "Butch Watch" website. Some how, some way, UW signed him. So, that means that they can recruit at UW. Jeter is/was one of their top recruiters, and now he may be ours. How else did UW pull Butch away from those others?
As for his playing...you're not going to improve much when you only average less than 10 minutes a game. I use Kam Taylor as an example. He got better as his minutes increased. Butch was starting to improve, then he got mono. Not much you can do other than sleep when you have mono.

I have to give it to you mcdadenets50, you are either a). hard core old school UWM fan, or b). you have a plethera of media guides at your fingertips! haha In which case you are still hard core. - I will give you the benefit of the doubt, and assume the former. All of the above...hard core Panther fan and proud of it! Is it too late to interview Greg Capper for the head job?

I don't know if Butch would have taken Boo's minutes because they're such different players, but he definitely would have taken his starting spot. And as optimistic as I am about their ability to contribute next year, I don't think D-Ford or Jason McCoy would have seen the minutes they did this year if Butch was on our team.
Does Olafu still say his favorite food is pounded yams and goat stew?

I know what you guys are saying.........there is no question that BB was one if, if not the, highest recruited player out of WI (in some time anyways). All I am saying is given our style of play, would you rather have a post player who is 7' tall, doesn't really have a back to the basket game, doesn't post up real hard all the time, and isn't that athletic (but can shoot decently), or a 6'8" or 6'9" type player who can press, is athletic, and is long? Would BB have played? Of course, but I just don't see him getting significant minutes given that we were best when the speed was "really" fast - something that BB does not fit well into (at least at this point in his career). I am not pulling a Gotlieb here, and calling BB out or anything, just stating that his current game does not fit our style, and his game has not evolved to the point where you structure your whole system, or change your gameplan, to account for him. Here's another vote for Cap! haha FYI - I checked, McDade did not wear #30.

to say butch cant play our type of game, would be a very wrong assumption. Just because youve never seen it doesnt mean he cant play the type of ball. Hes a good player who hasnt had the playing time to prove it. Look what he did against us. If i can remember right the big 7 footer hit a couple big threes for them. I dont know about you but i would love to have a big guy that could step out and hit a three everyonce in a while. Im pretty sure you put him gaurding the inbound on our press he would be pretty succesful, add in that he would be playing against some weaker competition, i think he would dominate at the horizon league level. thats just my opinion though, what do i know...
