I thought Majareus said he was not going to coach this upcoming year due to health reasons.

..........why is he so high on everybodys list? Plus, I think he will go to a much bigger job than UWM, what if Kentucky was to open up? I heard Tubby Smith might take over the Virginia job.

Hunter clearly looks like a perfect fit at UWM. I agree that Hunter looks like a great fit......I am going to reserve comment until we can see what else the search firm/committee can dig up before I jump on the Ron Hunter bandwagon, but at this point, he appears to be the most logical choice, and thus my favorite (for what that is worth).

I agree too. If the search brings up anyone better, fine with me, but he sounds like he could step right in and have the personality and style of play that Bruce had.

"he sounds like he could step right in and have the personality and style of play that Bruce had. "
True but still no answer for 157-135, half of which is at D2

Scott Edgar, former head coach at Murray State (where he did well) and Duquesne (where he did not), was lobbying (politely) for the job on Peter Brown's show. I think he's the top assistant at UAB. Same style of play. He sounded very southern. Smart but not too exciting.
Brown then interviewed Jeff Capel. I was going between places for all this and so I didn't hear the whole thing. He sounded fantastic but would probably hold out for a major conference. He did admit he was a nomad.

Anyone have access to ESPN.com's Insider?
Looks like Andy Katz is talking about the UWM job in his Daily Word, sort of implying (from what I can tell) that Buzz Peterson could be coming here.

NOOOOOO That would be a buzz kill for our Sweet 16 appearance.......no pun intended. The only good thing about that would maybe be a few token appearances by Buzz's friend MJ.

From Andy Katz Insider Report... Wisconsin-Milwaukee's search to replace Bruce Pearl could get very interesting in the coming days.
The Panthers return seven seniors (six are fifth-years), according to Pearl, and could be looking for an experienced head coach to take over a team that could be right back in the mix for the Horizon League title, an NCAA berth and a win or two in the tournament again. The two main losses are Ed McCants and defensive specialist James Wright.
One of the early favorites could end up being Wisconsin assistant coach Rob Jeter, who was at Milwaukee as an assistant under Bo Ryan before the pair left for Madison four years ago.
Jeter and Ryan did run a 1-2-1-1 press when they were at UW-Platteville, so shifting to a more pressing and trapping style from what Jeter coaches in Madison wouldn't be a stretch.
But Jeter could have some competition from former head coaches. Former Tennessee coach Buzz Peterson, if he's interested, could be in the mix since the Panthers would be looking at a coach who does have experience. That would be an odd switch if Peterson went to Milwaukee replacing Pearl, who replaced him. Wisconsin-Stevens Point coach Jack Bennett, Dick Bennett's brother, could also be in the mix.
Marquette assistant Jeff Strohm might have a hard time cracking the list over Jeter because of Jeter's ties to the program.

There is no way that we're trading coaches with UT.
What is significant about this is that Andy Katz thinks ESPN's national audience gives a rip about who coaches at Wisconsin-Milwaukee. I doubt that he's giving much attention to who's going to replace Rob Lanier at Siena or Robic at YSU. We are truly in new territory now. Be afraid, Marquette. Be very afraid.

Other than the messages on this board, the topic has been pretty quiet today. I for one, have to say that I have not really jumped on the "Hunter" band wagon. I dont like the guys record and dont necessarily like what he has done at IUPUI.
On the other hand, I really like the idea of Majerus, a big-time coach and a well-known name to take over UWM. He has ties to the city, he has connections to Marquette (can you say game against Marquette?), and he would elevate the status of UWM and the basketball program more than Pearl.
The guy can coach and I think he could really keep the intense and interesting style of pressing ball that the Panthers play that will not only keep last year's fans but attract new ones to the Cell.
At this point the question seems to be whether or not Majerus would coach again, as he has hinted that he wants to use this summer as a chance to get in shape so he can find a coaching position next year. Well next year is coming soon and this job looks perfect. I think we have a shot at landing him.
And please, no Bennet. I dont like the idea of him or any other WIAC coach coming into UWM. We reached that point with Bo Ryan, now we cultivate the D1 ranks for active HEAD COACHES only, because the job, unlike four years ago, is lucrative and exciting.

Andy Katz has no idea who we're looking at or for but he had to fill a column.
