Actually not a red flag but a red badge or courage . Do some research on why.

I never talked with Shay when he was here. But knowing his background and who he developed under as a coach, and how he we run out for standing up for his team.
I think he would be a perfect fit for Milwaukee, not just the university but the city as well.
It helps he knows the challenges here with getting media on board and he saw first hand what Pearl did to boost the program.

Also I think any coaching candidate needs to know the following. Most has been said.
-Handling Transfers -Outspoken - Jeter, Jordan, Baldwin were not, Pearl was. -Experience as a HC -Long term prospect

Why does people like Jason Shay? Shay being a former Pearl assistant is definitely not the only reason people like him. His record and coaching ability speaks for itself. Everywhere he goes, he proves he is the best at what he does. The only reason he was fired (or whatever it was) in his first year from ETSU was because he stood up for his players and their right to express themselves/speak freely, and that upset and triggered too many of the racist ETSU boosters down in Johnson City, TN. He'd be a perfect hire for us IMO, and we'd be lucky to get him.

Not sure why Eric Henderson would leave SDST as a Summit League head coach to Milwaukee in the Horizon. You figure the next step would be MVC, MWC or something. Probably the ability to be closer to family would be the draw. He’s got a better job there but that would have to be the angle to persuade him to come here.

Side bar, in case anyone doesn't know, I joined the army in October of 2001, served in Iraq for 15 months, and am very political. I am not a Democrat, or a Republican. I believe in the Constitution, and Constitutional rights. Anyone who thinks that kneeling, as a form of political protest, goes against any American ideal, is: -The opposite of a patriot. -100% anti-American. -Doesn't actually believe in our Constitution, or the rights that are enshrined and protected by the Bill of Rights (those words are supposed to mean things). -All of the above is true, regardless of what anyone wants to tell themselves.

I know the story. Many would also call it a stupid move. I would love to hear from those “many” on how one would recruit if he took a stance against his players. Regardless if he believes in it or not personally, openly standing against your players, 15 of 16 who are black, on topics involving race is impeccably stupid. It would also be used against him repeatedly by other coaches in that position as well as other jobs he’d take in the future.

Regardless of what one may think of Shay's situatuon at ETSU, it does not in any way make him unemployable in my view.
I would tend to agree with SRT's view on the matter in the grand scheme.

Yeah Shay would be about as bad of a hire you could get. Can't even believe some of you want him. I think some of you would take any coach that got any of BP's sweat on him one time. BP is a singular figure in college hoops right now any ideas that Shay could replicate that is wishful as best and deluded at worst.
