One concern about McCollum: what will happen if DeVries leaves Drake for a P-5? Devries is a good coach but his resume isn’t good enough yet for a promotion to the high-major level.

Im okay with being a stepping stone. Just as long as the rebound isnt too bad. When Bruce left, we had a good year right away, then a bad one, but came around. Then it spiraled. I think this also had to do with Bud leaving the program as well. There was a massive downward turn of talent in the administration (Nancy leaves, Santiago was good, but left, then you got Mone. Then the whole, Bud/George/Giger/Braun fiasco) Mone was hired as chancellor in 2014. You're forgetting Mike Lovell.

Im not sure if its indictment of the university or my academic motivation, but there were 3 chancellors in my time at Milwaukee.

Mone was brought in the semester i graduated I think. I know thats about the time I met him and spoke with him for probably 15 minutes about a wide range of things and he came across well.

We need to hire Ben McCollum as head coach. We should also hire Bruce Weber as an associate athletic director for men's basketball administration, similar to what Indiana did with Thad Matta. Those two moves would bring credibility back to the program and set the program up for success moving forward.

The posting for the position isn’t on UWM’s site. If I’m not mistaken, jobs must be posted for a required minimum amount of time like 14 or 28 days or something like that. Obviously decisions are made before that (i.e., Bobby Engram becoming the new offensive coordinator for the Badgers) but why not start the process now to get it over with sooner?

My problem with Lundy’s connection to the state is he was only the Director of Ops for Marquette. He wasn’t a coach who would’ve been out recruiting. So yeah he worked in the city/state for several years but that’s it. If that’s their argument for “having ties to the state”, that’s awfully weak. I don’t really consider that a leg-up on candidates without in-state ties.

Who gives the approval to hire the circle jerk that is the Parker Executive Search? Do they not have the resources or technical expertise in the AD office to conduct their own national search? Perhaps I'm naive to the way the hiring world works today as it relates to coaches and ADs, but this feels like Amanda Braun scratching the firm's back (again) so that eventually they'll scratch hers. Where did the name of Rob Ehsan come from? Playing career 2001–2005 UC Davis Coaching career (HC unless noted) 2005–2007 Maryland (GA) 2007–2011 Maryland (assistant) 2011–2012 Virginia Tech (assistant) 2012–2016 UAB (assistant) 2016–2020 UAB 2021–present Stanford (assistant) Head coaching record Overall 76–57 (.571) From Todd Rosiak's tweet where he said he's "heard from sources inside the program". For the record, this is a *terrible* sign. It means our AD has in fact hired a corrupt pay-to-play search firm such as Parker, which takes our money and then feeds us mediocre candidates who are paying the search firm, instead of actually finding us quality head coaches As Fran mentioned on Page 18: I assume everyone here realizes that in the end we are more likely to get someone pimped to AB by her search firm than any of the successful head coaches that are being discussed, right? Could they by chance pimp one of those folks? Sure. Gotta get their beak wet. Of course, I'm guessing their first question to any potential candidate is "Are you desperate enough for this job that you are willing to work for that AD?" They also gotta protect their flank in other coaching searches. The coaching community talks. A lot.

Well, it looks like Bruce Weber still wants to coach.....
"Weber, 65, professed his desire to continue coaching, asking for "some [athletic director] out there who would appreciate a coach that graduates players, wins championships, supports the university and embraces the community."

I'd take Weber if Ben McCollum turned it down.
