One of my co workers here is Dan Fitzgerald, ex Marquette player. Asked him about Bart and he almost came out of his shoes. Says he is on the best guys around. Tough yet positive, super great personality, players loved him, smart coach. FWIW feels he would be perfect hire Good to know. That was pretty much the exact same description of Rob Jeter coming out of Wisconsin, by the way steve, and it was true. Fortunately for him, your co-worker was long gone before the events that put MU basketball on the front page of the Chicago Tribune and that got Steve Cottingham thrown under the bus. Lundy was still there. With Buzz. Pass.

former mens coaching staff prior to Baldwin Unless they were on Jordan’s staff, is this really a story? No one would be surprised if she burned every bridge imaginable with Jeter’s staff. I've heard a couple "yikes" stories regarding AB from LaVall's staff.

P.S. If we send Zills anywhere with a contract make sure he's not using the calculator they use for attendance or we'll be paying the next coach two million bucks a year. I laughed so hard on the showroom floor that people are staring at me.

FWIW feels he would be perfect hire With all due respect Steve, when the words "perfect hire" come from anyone Marquette connected regarding our program, that is a "hard pass" in my book. Marquette people have no interest in anything that elevates our program. No one in the Marquette universe stated this more eloquently than Rick Majerus years ago. I'll never forget the sh*t that Steve Cottingham shoveled at us when we called to check George Koonce's references. 'He is so good at fundraising he could walk in one corner of the Bradley Center and by the time he got to the opposite corner you'd have enough to build something.' Do. Not. Trust. Anything that comes from someone who is squarely in the Marquette or Wisconsin camp. I'm not talking about coaches. I'm talking about alumni, boosters, fans, administrators. They're happy that we are a mess. Is that paranoid? Absolutely. I am fully aware that is some tinfoil hat sh*t. But we have enough of our own people talking. If Amanda Braun can pull off a Ben McCollum hire, I will drop every push to remove her from her job. That will be proof in my eyes that she can hack it and the university is serious about winning at basketball. And obviously I'll renew my season tickets.

One concern about McCollum: what will happen if DeVries leaves Drake for a P-5?

One concern about McCollum: what will happen if DeVries leaves Drake for a P-5? With the position we're in, that's always a chance we have to take. They just need to make sure the buyout is a good one. If this program is going to win like everyone wants it to, we're going to be a stepping stone. Especially in this garbage league. It is what it is.

It is what it is. Agreed. Also, does anyone else hate the P5 reference? It’s almost as though it’s being fed to us by ESPN. I know it’s mostly pertaining to football , which might make sense for the Big East to be absent. I’m Basketball, however , to say the Big East isn’t a “power” conference is laughable. Not to mention , given the parity in college basketball, there should just be power schools, and not power conferences. Ok , useless ranting over.

I want us to be a stepping stone. That means good things are happening. Yup. If we want to be an end destination at any point, we need to be a stepping stone for a while.

First step win some god damn games. Second get out of this dying conference. The hope is McCollum can do both of those things if he stays here long enough hes still only 40 as was pointed out and this could be his stop before the big boys come calling if he can have success here. If the right guy comes in for 8 years and gets us relevant again I dont care if he leaves for Wisconsin or Marquette. I just want to go to some fun UWM games again.

Than four more with the next, and the next, etc.

Sorry, guys, I meant to imply that we might "lose" McCollum before we ever get him. I would think that DeVries would be attractive for a high-major RIGHT NOW.

Im okay with being a stepping stone. Just as long as the rebound isnt too bad.
When Bruce left, we had a good year right away, then a bad one, but came around. Then it spiraled.
I think this also had to do with Bud leaving the program as well. There was a massive downward turn of talent in the administration (Nancy leaves, Santiago was good, but left, then you got Mone. Then the whole, Bud/George/Giger/Braun fiasco)
