I will say that I picked up a six pack of Panther Pilsner at Discount Liquor on Oklahoma. I bet she will count me as one additional donor each time I buy that as well as anyone else who purchases.

The only thing that has actually improved are the radio broadcasts. Less technical difficulties, clearer signal and Scott has really improved to the point where I look forward to his broadcasts though still miss Bill Johnson.

I really wish there were options on here other than "liking" something because there is a LOT of great stuff to glean from the preceding seven or eight posts.

I sound like Jack Black in High Fidelity but - "SUBTEXT" 5 most influential members of Athletic Board - then again, is there one and did it ever matter anyway

Kind of hinted at but not stated explicitly, you have to sympathize with PBJ and the team's mental health throughout all of this. It has to be suffering from greatly increased and now crumbling expectations.
How much having a 11-5 (5-2) record instead of our current record would change that remains anyone's guess. This was a catastophe in the making no matter which way the chips fell.
Again, some or all of the players may be feeling like they are somehow at fault. They aren't. The leaders (coaches and other AD professionals) are. I've never seen a team or an institution so unprepared.
I pray that somehow a positive can come out of this knot we are tied up in. TonyT can give us the postmortem when all is over which may explain some of the confusing mess currently masquerading as a D-I program on Downer Ave.

Well said. Players have been poorly served and deserve credit for playing hard in very weird circumstances.

Before that happens, we are left with hoping a blind squirrel finds a nut. What else can we as fans do short of becoming the next T-Bone Pickens? I would argue that our proposal for the next coach, which we should release the day they announce PBS will not be retained, is the best we can do for now. If it's not enough, it might just be time to pack it in. I thought about referencing "Our Proposal" in my comment. Hadn't heard much from you about it lately, so I am glad to see your response.

Yeah, based on my cynical note regarding AB's mastery at self promotion and bureaucratic maneuvering maybe most focused and pragmatic approach is to avoid the other issues even conference affiliation and focus on the Coaching recommendations and attributes. Subtext - style of play though only as a subtext if that...assumption is that we will be in HL and AB will be at the helm unless she angles for a Path to Prominence in some other academic or governmental institution

I just want to add that I personally am somewhat at fault in all of this (in a minor, but real way). Wearing rose-colored blinders, I happily exaggerated our chances at moving on up this season and created unrealistic expectations for the few Panther fans (or 'almost' Panther fans ) who caught my blog (not unlike the actual news at the JS which seemed to share my "propogandized" expectations for '21-'22). It wasn't intentional but it was irresponsible. I'm no basketball expert no matter how many Panther games or old Indiana Hoosier games I watch. I apologize. Expectations should be tempered by reality and I'm guilty of amplifying the PBJ-and-MKE-to-MarchMadness fantasies. I hope this team goes out and has some fun and forgets about expectations. That way, maybe we will be pleasently surprised by an HLT run or something.... Oh no wait-.. Forget it, what will happen will happen. The last thing I'll say here is, there is going to be a news story if the AD and Coach Baldwin keep waiting until tip time to announce PBJ is out. That's just not fair to casual fans, spending their hard-earned money, who have no idea about our... situation.

We had a few starters back, with a projected lottery pick coming, in a weak conference. A winning record, good basketball, and a shot at the conference title in March, was realistic and not a pie in the sky dream. The teams I see at the top of our conference aren't better than some of the old Butler, Valpo and Cleveland State teams from the past. I saw those teams, close up, in person. Our program should be able to consistently compete in this conference, with who's left in it. The lineup, injuries and "suspensions" is another story altogether. I wish I had a press pass......

I would agree and only add "as good," as in these teams simply aren't as good as the teams you referenced ... along with the old Wright State, Detroit and Green Bay teams.

Here's a cautionary tale from south of the border, guys, courtesy of Rick Morrissey of the Sun Times. Remember that there will be no REAL change here until there's change at the VERY top.
"Please, don’t applaud the Bears for making changes. Don’t talk about an invigorating breeze blowing through Halas Hall. You’ve been through this before. I heard a radio talk-show host express his excitement Monday over a 'fresh start.' That’s craziness. The McCaskeys will be the driving force behind this fresh start, just as they were the driving force behind all the other fresh starts. At some point, a logical person comes to the conclusion that things won’t change for the better until the McCaskeys change. I think George McCaskey is wearing the same sports coats he wore 20 years ago.
"The only way things have a chance of changing is if you force ownership’s hand, Bears fans. Maybe the family won’t sell the team. But at least you won’t be around to condone its behavior.
"Quit the Bears, people. You deserve happiness."

As much as I respect and admire Bud Selig, the same could have been written about the Brewers prior to Attanasio. Or the Bucks under Herb Kohl.
"So (I'm) telling (you) there's a chance."

Paul, Saw your post above on the Bears and had to comment. I am a long time Bears fan just like a Panther fan. Glutton for punishment as also a ChiSox fan. Anyway, will not quit either regardless but so many similarities. The sad truth is that like The Bears our problem starts at the top and unlikely to change. Only chance is to "get lucky". Coach can make a huge difference and we saw it with Pearl. Unfortunately, short lived and unsustainable when there is institutionalized dysfunction. The situation with Lovie Smith reminds me so much of the Rob Jeter era. Long time coach with midlin results . Classy guy. Went to one Super Bowl and got a coach of the year award. Very up and down and unexciting and got stale. Overall underwhelming After awhile felt like NFL purgatory. Sound familiar? Bears fans wanted a change and were vocal and not necessarily a minority. If not a majority pretty close. Then the "careful what you wish for" thing came into play. People wanted more and did not assume it was the solution to live forever with Lovie because if there was a change, gee things could get worse. Yes, that is always a possibility. And it did. Mark Tressman, John Fox and Matt Nagy. Went from purgatory to hell. Just like here HL purgatory to HL hell Same with Jeter. Things got worse and I agree there is proof of that. Did not have to be but should have known based on who was making the decision, how it was handled and the hiring decisions. In hindsight was it wrong to ever move beyond Lovie Smith or Rob Jeter though things got worse in both situations post change. I guess never try to reach higher, be satisfied with purgatory because while you might reach heaven if you try there is also the risk of failure. Careful what you wish for indeed
