Circling back around...the MVC is apparently strongly considering Kansas City.
Since Billy Donlon (a coach I'd say is very comparable to Rob Jeter) was hired, KC's average end of year KenPom rating is 238.
Since Pat Baldwin Sr. (a coach I'd say is far worse than Rob Jeter) was hired, Milwaukee's average end of year KenPom rating is 245.
Kansas City under a coach that one of the Doom & Gloomers WISHED Milwaukee hired is basically Milwaukee under its worst coach in decades.
I'll flip the question: why would the MVC want Kansas City over Milwaukee? Personally, my answer is "because they're considering something stupid".
(And for the record my top 3 would be Murray State, NKU and...IDK, Wright State if they can prove they have their finances in order. I'm not a fan of market-based additions, but the MVC is making it clear that's what they're after. Half the HL would be better additions than Kansas City)

The new practice facilities will help. Bricks and mortar do not cure incompetence. Plus, the MVC already bought a wooden nickel with that faux "storied program" with the potty colors. Why would they take on a second one? Because the Valley hasn't learned their lesson, I'd guess. Also, lol at the potty colors comment. As I always chanted from the student section when we played Valpo - "Yellow and brown? FLUSH IT DOWN!"

Milwaukee hasn't been at its best for the last several rounds of MVC realignment, but this is the first time they're not being listed as one of the secondary candidates...because Milwaukee is a market. Valpo and Murray aren't markets. If Murray botches too many hires and fan support goes down, they're in trouble. Fortunately for them, they've had like...1 coach since the 80s that didn't get hired to a bigger gig.

Amazing to think Murray State has been in the OVC since 1948.

Now we have to hope they don’t pick UIC as team 12. If they do, then I’m afraid the Horizon would decide they have to add a Chicago school, and there’s only one left.

The Horizon League and it's administrators have already turned this conference from a perenially respected Top 10 to Top 15 mid-major conference, into a low major conference - and one of the lowest ones at that. At this point, what difference does it make if they added Chicago State lol?

The many Eastern-leaning Horizon League schools might not necessarily mind if UIC heads for greener pastures, but the departure of our longtime rival would do nothing but further isolate us and Green Bay from the rest of the league members. Indianapolis is a little less than 4 1/2 hours from Milwaukee, but IUPUI would be the second-CLOSEST school to Milwaukee. Now think about how Green Bay would feel? In what seems like the blink of an eye (Loyola and Valpo have obviously already left), neither of the Wisconsin schools would be in the league "footprint."

Another possibility...
UIC departs for the MVC leaving the Wisconsin schools as relative geographical outliers.
The Horizon League moves East/South to replace UIC
Green Bay/Milwaukee end up in the Summit League

And I would very happily take the Summit over the Horizon right now. That league is MUCH better run!

Been thinking of that also lately. How about this for magical thinking?? We gp all in and join the MAC adding a football program. Ok, back to planet earth. Along those lines are there any MAC schools without football?? Playing Northern Ilinois, Ball State, Ohio, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Akron etc would be better than either HL or Summit. Wonder if we could become an affiliate member for basketball only?

Ahh, the Summit League with the likes of Denver, UMKC, Oral Roberts, Western Illinois (know their head coach would welcome this), but then again consider where we are at now with the likes of IUPUI, IPFW, Robert Morris, etc...a wash....Chicago State Southern Indiana next? Lets resurrect Northeastern Illiinois while we are at it...

Outside of "don't add IUPUI", I'm not seeing much in the last 2 decades...when your conference gets poached, it falls off...maybe add a bunch of subpar FBS programs in crappy markets so nobody wants to steal them for the sport we care about?

That’s a valid point. Since Loyola left, most of the conference realignment moves have been pretty good. Oakland and NKU were really good pickups. Like most people, I liked getting RMU and despite a very shaky start, I know they have good potential. Fort Wayne was kinda blah, but not terrible. My fear, though, is that the Horizon League really wants a Chicago market team. They really wanted Indy and though it took a few years, we got IUPUI as they were the last available team from Indy in D-1 (at least unless UIndy moves up). Assuming UIC leaves, I’d imagine the league wants to get to 12. I’m hoping they forgo CSU despite their market. They could go for a team from D-2 (maybe USI) or try to poach another team from another D-1 conference (preferably Bellarmine or Morehead State… though I’d imagine SIUe could be in the running for that too). But my fear is that Chicago State will be the “answer” to the Horizon League’s Chicago problem much in the same way IUPUI was the “answer” to the Horizon League’s Indianapolis problem.

At the time Chicago State solves the HL's "Chicago Problem," Milwaukee and Green Bay should head for the Summit.
