Also, I know they'll never read this but all the props in the world to the way JT and Amir played tonight. I know they would much rather win the ball game, and I hope that's not their last game as a Panther, but if it is they absolutely gave it their all and played phenomenal. Absolutely. They showed tremendous determination down the stretch this season and played to their strengths. Lucas should be included in this group. His main problem was the unreasonably high expectations many of us had for him.

Bad calls get made both ways. We need to play better. We have to play better, bue fouls are like 12-4 right now. We are getting screwed. And Cleveland State had more fouls in the first half.

I had just responded to someone who was somehow putting some blame on him. Like I said to the other dude, he didn't have a good shooting night, but the way he ran the offense and distributed with all the different presses and defenses thrown at us was amazing and we wouldn't of been in the game without him.

If the Panthers won, Cleveland State fans would be complaining about the refs missing the shot clock violation (the one that wasn’t overturned). Refs make bad calls but they generally balance out. I don’t think there was anything too egregious tonight. The fact of the matter is that tonight’s game looked like any of the last 5 or 6 final games last year. The Panthers simply couldn’t finish. While the players and coaches didn’t give the game away like Wright State did a few days ago, they did give away a double digit second half lead. There’s no one to blame but the players and coaches. Admittedly, Cleveland State made some lucky shots, but the Panthers let up on defense as the game went on. Dennis Gates is a much much better coach than Pat Baldwin. I don’t know that they have better players, but they built a winning culture there in two short years. I know there was some complaining about the bench for Cleveland State being obnoxious. I wish our team could be as fired up as they are on the bench. It’s only obnoxious because it’s not our team. I remember feeling that Brad Stevens’ Butler teams were obnoxious on the bench, but that was part of a winning culture. Not saying we need anything like that, but a winning culture wins games. Perfectly stated, DTP! I actually think that we have more talented players. Not smarter, but more talented.

As for tonight what was the issue? Scoring out of timeouts. Holding onto a lead. Getting the right shots. Gholston wasn't at his best, but how many shots did he get? Listen. This one hurts. We are all disappointed. So, I'm not going to poke the bear. Did Lucas take too many three's? Yes. Yet, Thomas attacked the rim. Gholston missed a mid range jumper late, that rolled off the rim. Allen energy on the glass was amazing. I do like that the team didn't chuck up shots late. Maybe went to late in the shot clock. The one kid off the CSU bench hit 3 huge three's and got fouled taking another. Lucas shot with 1:08 left that missed seem liked a wild shot. Ball gets hit out to mid court. Slips out of Brown's hand for a CSU dunk and foul was a killer. Never recovered.

After the Panthers went up by 11 with 9:47 left. 30-13 CSU out scored the Panthers.
Yet, the game was lost after 10-1 finish in the final 1:56 after Gholston jumper put the Panthers up 64-61.

Baldwin's entire tenure has been two unexpected runs in the conference tournament and the small chance his son was coming here. His regular season regular, especially in conference play, is horrid. Unless Junior comes, there's no incentive to attend any home games next year. Hopefully his final year.

That’s really the story. We can analyze it all we want but no team plays a perfect game. It was a close game against two evenly matched teams. Cleveland State erased the 11 point deficit with some 3s (not hard to do when you hit 2-3 quick 3’s) and it was a 1 point game going into the final minute. And they scored at the end, we didn’t. Fun game to watch actually outside of the outcome.

I ain’t getting any younger!

The incentive to attend home games is looking at what this lock down winter was. Bullsh*t what it was!

Not at all saying it's a reason to keep him, more of an indictment on modern day college basketball. But runs in the conference tournament at this point in time are sadly way more important than the regular season when you're playing in a mid major conference that pretty much no matter what is only getting one bid.

It's really, really hard to argue with this. Actually, it's spot-on. I will add this: for a program as fragile as ours has always been, optics matter. We frankly need all the "fringe" fans we can get, so reguar-season wins are also essential.

I bet fans remember the 2014 team more than the 2011 team who won conference and hosted the HL Tournament and lost because 2014 made the tournament. I'd love to do both but I'll take a conference tournament run any day of the week.

I agree that tournament success means a lot more than regular season success, but tournament success means winning the tournament. Nobody other than die hard fans care about making it to the semi finals of the Horizon League tournament. The only reason PBS was invited on the local radio shows this last week was because of the 24 point comeback. He wouldn’t have been on any of these shows if the Panthers only came back from a 4 point deficit with 6 minutes to go.
The Panthers have finished in the lower half of the conference in the regular season in each of PBS’ first four years, and nothing less than a conference tournament win would erase the stench of that sub-mediocrity in any fair weather fan’s eyes. And PBS has still never been closer than 2 wins away from that.
