Anyone know what offense we were running tonight? Offense? I'm still trying to figure out what we were doing defensively. Face it, Steve McClain coached circles around PB!

was at the game. bounces went against us, we never really had open looks from deep, and the Flames were making pretty much everything they threw up. throw in turnovers, missed free throws, and getting out rebounded time and again, and you get an 18 point loss. Scary part? thats actually closer than the away game at UIC. Frankly i think UIc is just a bad matchup for us this year.

Prior to then, we had won 16 of the last 18 games.

UIC came in hitting just 31.1% of its three's. "When we were going into our scouting for UIC, that wasn't their strength," said Baldwin. "We wanted to take away the paint, and you've got to take away one thing or the other. They present a little more of an issue because they have an open-spread type of offense that doesn't require ball screens. "They can get downhill and force you to help a little bit more. If you tell me they're going to go 10 for 20 from three (for the game), I would have gone with the percentages. And that's what we did. We played the percentage game, and we lost."

Honest question: can't we take away both? This all sounds extremely defeatist. I mean, they're not the 1976 Hoosiers!!

Honest question: can't we take away both? This all sounds extremely defeatist. I do not think they are capable of taking away both. They do not have the length and athletism to do it. Pick your poison - challenge the opponent to try to beat you from the inside or outside. It was interesting to hear PB say after the game his staff is recruiting to address the lack of shot blocking ability (length). Translation: "We don't have the capability to compensate for defending on the outside while still having someone inside to defend, but we will in future seasons." The only thing I disagree with PB on in his post game comments was his insistence that playing three games in five days was not a factor in the outcome. For an undermanned team he says needs "toughness" to compete successfully, it sure looked to me that they were gassed down the stretch.

What upsets me most about last night's game are:
1. Being reminded again the walk-ons do not have names on their backs. Hey, I was only kidding before that there is probably not enough money in the budget for the extra letters. Could the athletic department please fix this? I dont get it.
2. Panthers' dribbling out the clock to end the game. We see this happen way too often in basketball. The trailing team should never, ever do this. It symbolizes giving up.

They were literally dribbling out the clock down 13 with 4 minutes left. There was ZERO urgency last night. That falls on the coaching staff. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt as it is his 1st year with none of his recruited players, but I'm a bit concerned.
Going on record, UIC will win the HL tournament.

Looking ahead, I hope that we avoid them in the HL Tourney. Their length and athleticism inside is a problem and couple that with our horrid 3 point defense (at times), would be another big issue for us.
Either way, on to GB. Should be a fun game and atmosphere on Friday night.

Frankly, I think in a way we have over achieved this year. Not to say PB is John Wooden but look at the roster....we are shorthanded and every thin in so many areas. So far and hopefully no one de-commits a lot more depth coming next year with Abram, Mitchell, Cameron, Mosley and Sohnel. Know a lot of youth but holy cow. I know how highlight films can get one pumped up but the athleticism of these guys is much needed and frankly way beyond what we have now. The arrow is pointing up....not linear though....

UIC has been a bad matchup for us the last two years. Prior to then, we had won 16 of the last 18 games. Keep in mind most of these wins came in the Howard Moore era. His greatest accomplishment was somehow lasting 5 years. This UIC squad would definitely beat all of Moore's teams.

Makes one pine for the glorious Rob Jeter era prior to the last two years.....An example of great coaching. Look how we over achieved in the Horizon League his last four years (conference record)
2012-13 3- 13 9th 2013- 14 7 -9 5th 2014 -15 9 -7 5th 2015 - 16 10 - 8 5th Total - 29 -37 !!!!!!! The point I am making is we can use facts very selectively. Notice I left out the NCAA tourney appearance.... all how you spin it
The last two years have largely sucked basically due to our own AD self destruction to the program. That being said I do think the arrow is point up....the overall Jeter era was a flatline with a few blips both up and down but never more....

Yes, let's look at the bright side, folks!!
Sure, it may have been a terrible home loss to an awful team that pretty much seals that this will be ANOTHER year thrown down the toilet by our AD's miserably ill-timed decision to blow up the program -- but at least there were almost no witnesses!
The announced attendance was 1,057. I kid you not. RIDICULOUS!!!!! And what's even MORE pathetic is that even if that truly HAD been the attendance, it would still be HORRIBLE!!!
Here's an idea for the department: since numerical facts clearly have no meaning for you any more, why not just flip the SCORE every time we lose? Claim victory on the department website! Maybe nobody will notice that either -- because at this point, it seems that nobody cares! It could save a job for a year or two until someone at Chapman Hall finally wakes up!
P.S. Do you want to know what UIC's "best" win this year has been -- apart from their TWO beatdowns of Milwaukee? It was at home against #281 ranked North Carolina Central of the mighty MEAC. My goodness, the company we keep in this brave new era.

I'll add that Rob was 107-53 in all home games, including those at the Klotsche. Since the purge, our home record is 13-14. Shades of Ric Cobb. The point I'm making is that you have to make your home court a fortress and give your "fans," especially the fickle students, a reason to return.
We're not achieving that right now!
