That second half was just ugly.

If the Panthers can hit from the outside, that would open up the inside again. Why does Carson not play? He looks like he can shoot. We may have seen why those last few minutes.

3 point shooting and rebounding are what lost the game. Otherwise I thought it was a clean performance - 46% from the field, 9 turnovers, and the Badgers only shot 10 free throws all game. But they scored 27 more points than us from 3 and that was the difference.

Panthers 1/11 from three and 2/8 foul line. Yukkkk.

Badgers were very beatable tonight. Panthers were on the wrong side of 50/50 balls and had no outside shooting. Lack of depth certainly showed here. Oh well, now 3-1 against D1 competition. I'm all for playing Madison every year. On to the next game.

Thought the kids played really hard tonight. Just hugely overmatched from a talent standpoint. It is what it is.
An interesting observation: Bruce, as we all know, played fast. For lesser coaches that's a recipe for disaster but it worked in his system. Rob's teams tended to play just a little faster than the median. Other than his first team (relatively fast) and his last team (relatively slow) his teams generally finished in the mid-100s (among the approximately 350 D1 teams) as far as game tempo. (Tempo is defined as possessions per 40 minutes.) Lavar Jordan and Pat Baldwin have ground the Milwaukee tempo to the very cold side. Jordan's team last year played at the 344th slowest tempo in the country. On a much smaller sample size, that's also exactly where Baldwin's team is after his first six games.
There's nothing wrong with playing at a deliberate tempo, of course. Some of the best programs in the country -- for example Wisconsin, Virginia and Michigan -- make a living there. Some very good mid-major programs, too, for example Northern Iowa. I just find it interesting, especially since both Jordan and Baldwin talked about "getting up and down the court" or something like that. I assume it was just sales talk. But the proof's in the pudding. Why not just embrace it as how we're going to play, and recruit to that style?

This team has absolutely no bench. Heaven help us if anything happens to Stull, Nze, Barnes or Prahl.

One of the positives of the night was the post game...I feel like Nze and Prahl played well down there and got consistent touches. Speaking of that, not sure why Brett seemed to not play much in the 2nd half. I know he only had 2 fouls early in the 2nd half...either way, on to NIU.

Clearly, there are going to be some growing pains for PB. It's only natural.

My 1st post. Excellent defense by U W on 3pt line that half. They need to dribble drive and dish to draw defense in. Soften them and create some open 3 balls. And make your $@*# free throws. Welcome to the D-Board!

The first half, I thought we came out and really played aggressively and defensively, we were in the spots that we needed to be," head coach Pat Baldwin said. "You could tell that by (the score), 28-23, down by five and feeling good going into the half."

Second half was a totally different story," Baldwin said. "The name of the game in the second half was rebounding. We didn't do a great job on the defensive glass. We gave them second opportunities and it led to 19 second-chance points which was our demise in the second half."
