There was never a moment when the game looked or felt like an "exhibition."
The kids gave marvelous effort, but this rotation is paper thin. Are there even eight scholarship players on the roster?
I really liked what I saw from newcomers Newsome and Johnson, but one significant injury and the Panthers will be in a lot of trouble.

dylan, curious about whether you could estimate the total crowd -- and the number of Milwaukee fans in that crowd.
You know, just so we can get the flavor of how much of a joint exercise this was. The Milwaukee turnout should also be a good predictor of attendance at our upcoming exhibition game.

I haven't seen any figures, Fran, but I would put the crowd at around 1,650, with maybe 50 dressed in black and gold.

"The greatest takeaway, for me, is that our guys played hard," Baldwin said. "Hopefully that shows itself in the film. But they played hard, they showed a lot of aggressiveness and they weren't afraid.
"This was great for us, to come out here and get an opportunity to play against a quality opponent like Marquette, and be in a situation where the lights are on and the fans are out and a little bit louder," Baldwin said. "I think our guys acquitted themselves pretty well today. This was great for us."

I missed the game for some family stuff that came up last minute. I wish I could have been there, it looked like a nice time.

Hoisted on my own petard by the identical in all respects comparison between the history of MU/UWM and the history of UW/UNI! Why didn’t I see this coming? Well, my chastisement aside, FTA can you let us know your thoughts about the exhibition? Surely you were one of the TENS of Panther fans who participated in this kumbaya moment between our programs! (Btw, many people are saying that the reason so few Panther fans actually showed up at this MU event is that Rob Jeter was outside the Al threatening Panther fans who wanted to watch, so they all went home! And that he did the same thing all last year outside the Arena! Jeter!!!)

Shocked to see your response was as ridiculous as your initial thoughts in this thread.

And that he did the same thing all last year outside the Arena! Jeter!!!) It is hard for me to see what you are so bitter about. What benefit did Marquette get out of this game that UWM did not? Each team got to play an extra exhibition game against a D-1 opponent before the season. Both teams had a chance to promote their programs, and did. They got equal coverage in the local press and the coaches appeared on the same radio show. A contribution was made to the American Red Cross in the name of both schools, even though Marquette fans paid almost all the money. So what exactly are you unhappy with? The fact is that all of these games are being done in a hurry and expenses are being kept to a minimum. UConn and Providence is an interesting game, and it is being played at a casino an easy drive to either of them. Notre Dame is playing a school practically on its own campus. I do not know how far Kansas State is from Missouri State or Georgia State from Athens, but it is not far. Wojo's comment on the radio interview were revealing. "UWM was one of the first schools to come to mind." That is, not the only choice. So if as you would have preferred, the UWM AD had told Marquette to stick it unless it was ready to negotiate a home and home series (which was not going to happen right now just before the start of the season,) the Marquette AD would have just hung up and called someone else. My guess would be Loyola, a short bus ride away and another Jesuit university with which Marquette has some history. There is no way UWM was going to put together a game like this on its own, and it was not going to be invited to take an extra trip to Madison. Of course all the fans were Marquette fans. Marquette pitched the game to its season ticket holders. This was going to be put together in a few days. It was never going to be a big production with lots of promotion and opportunities to pitch the game to everybody's fans as big event. So all UWM had to do was suit up, get on the bus, and play. And they got a game. The ADs and school presidents appeared together to give the Red Cross a check. Your new coach got to look at his team in a game situation in front of a crowd which will likely be similar to HL crowds they will see this season. What you would like to do is spill out years of bitterness at Marquette, which likely would have made it highly unlikely that Marquette would have even considered renewing the series. Bruce Pearl did a lot more harm than good on that front. You seem to get more pleasure out of bitterness than anybody I know. It is self-defeating in this regard. You used to gripe about how the two teams should play each other regularly because "it just makes sense." Here they got together to play a game that made sense for both teams, and everybody is happy - except you.
