We think divisional play is good. And we have lots of members on our membership candidate list who are very interested in helping us achieve that vision no matter what our current membership movement might be"

Why doesn't the HL look at North Dakota State & South Dakota State? Go after Belmont!

Think they actually should of looked into adding both for last season. I don't think we'd be in a situation to where Valpo would be considering leaving. Either way wherever Milwaukee ends up it looks like we'll be in a 12 team conference. |

Why would they leave the Summit League? You guys do realize that if Valpo leaves, we fall behind the Summit in strength, right? Plus the Summit has become the Dakota conference, with UND set to join.
The time to grab the XDSU schools was when we added Oakland. I said it then, and I was far from the only one. People were afraid of the travel, but we would have destroyed the Summit League, and the strength with those two probably would have staved off Valpo's departure this time (if it happens). The Horizon League is paying for its shortsightedness.

I assume this is sarcastic but if not, I will say this - I'd bet the farm that CSU isn't even on the long list. They may not even exist in the next 5-10 years. They are in tremendous financial trouble and we don't want to be associated with their academics. The HL will sign their own death warrant by adding them. I think the HL is too concerned with staying within the footprint, which will probably result in IPFW or IUPUI being added. There are only so many schools in the footprint and we keep replacing good ones with worse ones. As much as nobody wants to increase travel costs, I think we have to consider it for the sake of staying relevant. I'd love to be able to pull in Murray State (if MVC passes on them) and/or Belmont, but I'm guessing there's a near-zero chance of that happening. Maybe you guys will luck out and get invited. I doubt it, but it's possible. |

OVC football only has 9 members so they're not really in a great position to kick out members. If the talk of Eastern KY and/or Jacksonville State planning to elevate to FBS is true, the OVC will need to keep MSU. |

It's football, so you're talking about four or five road games a year that would be a decent drive. Murray State is desperate to get out of the OVC. This is their ticket. MVC or HL. 1) Make the obligatory call to Belmont and when they say no...
2) Call Murray State and do whatever's necessary to bring them in.
3) If either IPFW or IUPUI are on the short list, dissolve the conference.

Fail to add Murray State or Belmont for next season and the Horizon League suddenly looks like the Southland North.
It seems like a merger with the Summit League may be the only other thing that can save it.
