There will always be a lot of candidates. There are only 351 D1 jobs. And whatever else, any coach who comes into our program knows that if (s)he just steers the team to 12 wins and an average actual attendance of, say, 1100 fans per game -- that's now considered success here!
Low bar, baby -- it can work in our favor!

Maybe the list of things you don't b**** about might be easier. We all get it and know were you stand.

Coach Jordan wasn't an off-the-grid assistant. We could afford him (for a year). There's no superstar high school coach that would be worth our time. The contract with Jordan was negotiated before we suffered what appears to have been a 40% collapse in ticket sales. Meanwhile, the Horizon League has lost Valpo. You can imagine what that might do to broadcast contract dollars (which were already negligible). Frankly the only money likely to be available to hire anything more than a bargain basement candidate is Jordan's buyout -- and you can fairly wonder whether this administration will be inclined to use that money for that purpose considering the other pressing financial issues in the department. It's hard to make it all work financially when you drive away major donors. Noted Fran. Thanks. You've changed my mind. We're f***ed.

No, no you guys aren't hearing him...the EMPEROR...not the king, nor the prince, mind you...the emperor....has no clothes. Let that sink in for a moment...savor BBFran's wisdom. Go on...swirl it around, and breath in the robust aroma of his wise guidance. Deeply deeply profound.

I always take editing with equanimity. You're right, I should be more precise.

So take 4 from "canceru" (hilarious!), add them to the 12 at the eunuch board. Voila -- the total remains of our fan base. Kind of reminds me of Grover Norquist's pernicious ambition for government -- that he didn't "want to abolish government. [He} simply want[ed] to reduce it to the size where [he could] drag it into the bathroom and drown it in the bathtub." Our empress has used the same approach. She didn't want to destroy our program, she apparently just wanted to destroy all interest in it.

Let's take all 700k of LaVall's buyout and throw it at Tom Crean(I say this jokingly).

When he was at Marquette, he reportedly wouldn't appear at an event unless there were at least 250 people committed to attend.

When he was at Marquette, he reportedly wouldn't appear at an event unless there were at least 250 people committed to attend. Well, then, here's a novel idea....hire him and pay him per game. Then when he refuses to show because there are less than 250 people at the game, we don't have to pay him at all for that game. That way we don't need a ticket sales manager, either. Total Win Win solution, and befitting the incredible leadership of the entire University.

UIC fan here, so I have no skin in this game. Just an observation.
Jordan probably wouldn't have taken another offer (or even been offered one at a high major) if it wasn't Butler. We all know how loyal Butler is to their own. Hiring a former player and 3-year assistant coach seemed like a "no-brainer" to me.
I know it sucks for you guys and the carousel continues. What's everyone preference for a new coach: an assistant at a successful high major or a proven head coach at a low major (or D2, D3, NAIA)?
