I think Townsend would be a great choice, also best chance at keeping all of our recruits. Best chance at keeping all of our recruits as well as setting us up for the future is Billy Donlon. If Braun somehow got Billy Donlon to come to Milwaukee, I would be very, very, very impressed.

Any legs to Billy Donlon or just a hope by you? I haven't spoken to anyone regarding Billy Donlon coming to be our head coach, at least the ones who would be close to Donlon or Braun. That would just be the home run of the decade, and he's available. It was implied by someone close to Dylan Alderson that he would stay if Billy Donlon were to be hired.

Count me amongst the Billy Donlon advocates. Only name on my short list. The guy has all the motivation in the world to run roughshod over the Horizon League, and his press conferences are must-see TV.

And again I ask: why in God's name would a coach like Billy D who was fired after a good run at Wright want to work for an AD who fired a coach who had a BETTER run at Milwaukee? Do you really think he's that stupid?
Billy Donlon is still a young guy. He's working at one of the top programs in the B1G. He'll get opportunities, and I suspect his sights are set much higher than this dumpster fire. They should be.

Other than an off-the-grid assistant or an internal promotion, who else can we afford?

Other than an off-the-grid assistant or an internal promotion, who else can we afford? Coach Jordan wasn't an off-the-grid assistant. We could afford him (for a year). There's no superstar high school coach that would be worth our time.

This is going to be a very difficult position to fill at this point. This is now 2 seasons worth of lost recruits, and potentially an even MORE bare cupboard that when Jordan was hired. I am sure some of his recruits will follow him to Butler (if given the opportunity), and any that were in the Milwaukee pipeline will likely now look elsewhere. Add to that the reputation of our administration, the lack of anything approaching fan support, and the public direct questioning of continued D1 status by at least one member of the Board of Regents, and you have perhaps one of the least attractive "D1 opportunities" in all of college basketball. And as a cherry on top of the turd sundae, we have the ridiculous TJ "you're hired....wait....no you aren't" fiasco, which means that whatever candidates we talk to will get to wonder if an offer is legitimate or not, and may not find out until they are half way to Milwaukee for their introductory press conference. Dumpster fires can occasionally reignite, especially when the combustible materials are not removed from the dumpster...

And yet, on the other hand, imagine the positive signal it would send to potential head coaches if the University took appropriate executive action to reform the Athletics administration.
But who am I kidding? More likely it will continue its laissez faire policy of benign neglect and do nothing. And that will send a signal to potential coaches too.
On the bright side, as we hurtle towards low major status, we at least have the comfort of knowing the Horizon League is racing in the same direction stride for stride.
Anybody know what Tony Jones is doing these days?

There's no superstar high school coach that would be worth our time. The contract with Jordan was negotiated before we suffered what appears to have been a 40% collapse in ticket sales. Meanwhile, the Horizon League has lost Valpo. You can imagine what that might do to broadcast contract dollars (which were already negligible). Frankly the only money likely to be available to hire anything more than a bargain basement candidate is Jordan's buyout -- and you can fairly wonder whether this administration will be inclined to use that money for that purpose considering the other pressing financial issues in the department. It's hard to make it all work financially when you drive away major donors.

I did not know that, and all I can say is -- I should have known.

Anybody know what Tony Jones is doing these days? Tony Jones is at Oakland University as he was recently hired to Kampe's staff. However, there's one candidate who would have the backing of many many former players. He has continued relationships with many of us since his days here and was always the behind the scenes guy in some of our programs biggest wins......Jason Shay! You want a home run amongst assistant coaches this late in the game, he's the guy to bring in. Success has followed him at many of his stops, but he also has strong ties to the program and our fan base. No need to bring up the fiasco of what happened with BP at UT. As for Todd Townsend, he is a very personable coach who is also an up and coming assistant coach. Have nothing negative to say about Todd as he is also a class act.
