Per Jeff Goodman, it's looking as though Webster is becoming the leading candidate.

Per Jeff Goodman, it's looking as though Webster is becoming the leading candidate. '97, your thoughts? I'd have preferred a head coach (Miller, Billeter, Jackson). Webster can recruit at the national level and is a "Wisconsin guy," but I's prefer someone with a head coaching resume. Plus, Webster has been with so many programs, I have no idea what the hell his coaching style/philosophy is. If somebody knows, I'd be interested to hear it. What do you think, McDade?

I'm would be extremely excited that Tracy Webster would be the next coach. Great recruiter!

I, too, prefer a coach with a defined style that has made the tough decisions (not just suggestions) in game, in practice, and off the court. Webster can recruit at the national level but that is not the type of recruit UWM can target. Hopefully his WI and IL connections can help us if he is hired. Hiring a coach is such a crap shoot. Who knows? Hopefully he won't be the next Howard Moore. Plus, I thought we were looking for someone with head coaching experience?

Any new coaching hire is a crap shoot. It' a big jump hiring a D2 or D3 coach. That's why you really don't see much at all.

Personally, I would take a great recruiter and take my chances if someone can coach. He has been around, I'm sure he knows what he is doing.

Milwaukee is a place that needs to take a risk; I'm sure Darner was a gamble for GB and they struck gold. We hired a BCS assistant who could recruit and treaded water for 10 years. What makes anyone think Webster will be any different? I'll take my chances with a guy who can win at the D2 or D3 level because that is ALL coaching. BCS assistants are a dime a dozen. Milwaukeee needed to take a risk here and it appears they laid up.

Isn't taking an assistant a risk?

Isn't taking an assistant a risk? I think less so than a guy coming from a D2 or D3 school. Who was the safer hire at the time, Rob Jeter or Mike Dunlap?

Webster wouldn't be my first choice, or second, but there are a few reasons why I like him.
1. He was the lead recruiter on two top 10 kids to Cal last year, that's huge. I do believe he can recruit nationally at UWM. 2. Helped develop NBA players and conference players of the year. Is very good with guards from what i've read. 3. Is from the area, but has been with lots of great programs around the entire country. 4. He is not a Bo guy. 5. His one win as a head coach came against Marquette lol

We're not in the interview process. Some guys don't interview well. As for your question, it would be unfair for me to answer, as i don't remember the process in 2005.
