So many reactions to this. I am heartbroken for the players. They did not and do not deserve to be pawns in this PC experiment gone haywire.
I cannot even put into words the disgust I have for the entire University right now. I am ashamed of all of this. Every single bit of this was self-inflicted. It all goes back to the hiring of someone who was wholly unqualified to even apply for the position given her resume. But to hire her over another candidate with incredible qualifications, resume and track record is all but unforgivable.
Now, to cover her gross incompetence, she has begun lying to everyone, attempting to manipulate the athletes she is charged with guiding, and heaping indignity upon insult.
And all the while the Chancellor sits in his office doing nothing, or worse yet, planning his next social engineering project in the Athletic Department. After all, there is ONLY ONE reason to select her over Plinske, and I think we all know what that reason was/is. It could not be on any objective criteria, as she was not nearly the candidate he was at the time she was hired.
The final insult in all of this is that none of our efforts here will change one damn thing. We are the unwashed masses of ignorant townsfolk who are here to be told what to do and dare not criticize our elders in the ivory towers.

And Mone's undergrad and PHD is in Organizational Behavior. You'd think he'd be able to figure out that this organization is broken.
Interestingly enough one of his research interests includes organizational decline. He's living his own case study.

To be fair, Mark Mone was not the Chancellor at the time.

Sorry but I don't see how she could be fired, any replacement could be hired and then a coach be hired in such a short amount of time for a public university. Assuming Plinske is open to the move today, it's not like he can interview by the end of the week, be offered the job next week while giving his two week notice and start interviewing coaching candidates in the mean time. Braun will hire the next coach and realistically be given another year or two. However, no AD can survive the loss of significant donors and under-performing coaches in the major sports. Time will tell. Holic, please don't take this as disrespect, but your comment is emblematic of the thinking that has led us to this point. Just about every conversation I ever had with previous members of the AD staff, etc. always devolved into "I just don't think we can do that". There is a time an place for such caution, but this program thinks this way almost 100% of the time, about almost everything. Would it be difficult to can her right now? Yes. Does the fact that doing the right thing here is hard mean you should just let her continue to wreak havoc on the entire department for a year or two longer? Absolutely not. She has demonstrated an incredible inability to perform the basic functions assigned to her. The case for firing her has already been made. Why should the fact that she made an absolute mess of things protect her from the consequences of making a God awful mess in the first place? Almost every success, especially in sports, is due to doing the seemingly impossible or taking the big risk. For example, had Ron Wolf not taken a huge risk on Favre, and went after a free agent named Reggie NO ONE in their right mind thought he had a snowball's chance in hell of landing, he never would have gone into the HOF, and the Packers may not even be in Green Bay any longer. No Super Bowls. No Aaron Rodgers. So just do what must be done, even if it's hard or risky. Get on with the process of rebuilding. Plinske wanted to be here not long ago, and I doubt much has changed for him since. As for a coach, if you get Plinske on board, let him make the hire. HE has demonstrated he knows how to hire coaches. It isn't like we will be competing for any of the big names out there now anyway, so I fail to see what the hurry is. I have always appreciated your enthusiasm Hawk but there are state laws and regs at play here. You can't just fire someone that quickly. You also can't just hire a replacement without a search, a long enough period for interested parties to apply etc. etc.

Like everything he had to say minus the racial factor going into the firing. Also I think it's totally fair he would have to pay for his summer classes. You don't have to agree with everything he's saying. But you can't deny that this kid who has given three years of his life to this university has been unnecessarily caught between a rock and a hard place. I'm sure he's a great guy but sometimes I think that thoughts like that, hurt Athletics. There are plenty of students who are paying their own way through school. When I was at UWM I spent as much time or more than any athlete saving the segregated fee so we'd have a program. In fact I spent an extra year as an undergrad because I was in Madison so often lobbying to get the Klotsche Center built. Yes he worked hard as an Athlete for three years but he also got a free college education out of it. Maybe I'm wrong but it seems some people think that a guy who gets his tuition and housing paid for, plus meals and books is somehow getting a raw deal because he'll to pay for some of his classes after he makes it clear he wants to leave the campus to play for another school. Tell that to the students who don't have his talent and work two and three jobs just to keep down their student loan debt.

Seems to me that Madison hired a basketball coach without the requisite searches, etc. They just kinda did it, didn't they? In fact, they hired Alvarez in much the same way. And every football coach since Alvarez left the job. It can be, and obviously has been, done many times over. So just do it. If nothing else, fire her now before she makes this all worse than it already is. HAving NO AD is better than having this bumbling oaf at the helm.

Yes Hawk they did. But it wasn't a new hire. It was a promotion. He was already in the system. But even then they did a "national search" or at least pretended to. That's why it took two months to hire the guy.
Don't get me wrong. I think Ms. Braun's actions should be seriously looked at and based on what I've seen so far, I'd rather have someone else in her position.

So pretend to do a search then. Fine. Who cares. But first you have to fire her, and I think we all know that isn't going to happen because....well....use your imagination.

Reports from gomkepanthers are that Braun has a friend who's known simply as The Exterminator.

I agree, I just can't sympathize with having to pay for a couple of summer classes. Plus if we payed for his summer classes that would mean one less player we could get in here for summer workouts.

Summer workouts?
I'll be surprised if they have enough guys to hold a practice.

My feeling is that guys will stay because Rob encourages them to stay. Bringing Braun's gender into the discussion, for whatever reason, is gross and does nobody any favors.

Reports from gomkepanthers are that Braun has a friend who's known simply as The Exterminator. Unfortunately, I'm not surprised that there's digs against me as I'm not going with the narrative on this board. I'm frankly puzzled why people are so mystified why Rob Jeter was fired based on his performance. Could it have been handled better especially from a Public Relations standpoint, certainly, but unfortunately we don't live in an ideal world. I understand that it may be more fun to throw the AD under the bus but when is it time to move on? When is it time to stop crying over spilled milk and move forward?
