So we are on national TV tonight (ESPN2) and national syndicated TV on Sunday.
But the "Milwaukee" JS gives us NOT. ONE. WORD. in preview.
Why doesn't that rag just rename itself? The Waukesha Crank? The Marquette Tribune? Sure, those would be much closer to the truth, but let's go with the most descriptive name. The Dead Letter.

It's crazy how there is no preview, not even a tiny one. Everyone just says to me when I ask, because nobody gives a sh*t.

The Marquette Tribune? Sure, those would be much closer to the truth, but let's go with the most descriptive name. The Dead Letter. Marquette's getting blown out on Saturday and Eddie Lacey consulted a p90x specialist. So ya know, those are more important and they had to cover those.

I don't want to take shots at others, because those will laugh at us. There was a saying I learned years ago, ripping others will not make yourself look better. Rob Jeter has done very well with that in the media. I'm just saying we matter, too! We want a piece of the pie as well.

The media used to tell you what was important. Now it's about tabloid B.S.
I enjoyed D'Amato's piece on how people should come out for our games. But I would have been much happier if it was followed by standard coverage of the basketball team - for every game a preview and a recap, and a weekly feature. A photographer at every home game, a stringing photog for half of the away games.
Have we come even close to that? Not a chance.

The crazy thing is that the news end has finally figured out that our University is a major, burgeoning force for economic development and urban progress in Milwaukee and Wisconsin. But the JS sports editors seem to be stuck in 1977, slavishly and lazily covering the college basketball world as though nothing has changed.
I honestly don't care if we don't get EQUAL coverage as the flagship school and the small Catholic college that markets itself as being in north suburban Chicago. I just want FAIR coverage. That requires an actual beat reporter -- not stringers with "Special to the JS" stories from ACROSS THE FREAKING STREET!!!! Not three year old headshots of Matt Tiby -- one of the finest college players this city has ever seen -- after a big win at home while the little Catholic school gets quarter page action shots from titanic matchups with DePaul -- IN CHICAGO.
Where is our administration on this? Why isn't Amanda literally showing up unannounced at the JS at least once a week to pound on the desk and say "What the hell!?"
It's NOT 1977. It's 2016!

And let's be clear about what fair coverage means. It means:
1) A beat reporter who stays with the team the whole year -- not one who gets pulled to write boring spring training articles about a team inexorably headed to another losing season 2) The beat reporter actually covers ALL games -- home AND away 3) Just like the other D1 programs, we get PREVIEWS before each game and PARTICULARLY before each home game. 4) When only one or neither of the other D1 schools are playing, we get PAGE ONE coverage, unless there are other LIVE sports events that need the space (as opposed to ruminations about how US gymnastics might perform -- NEXT YEAR!) 5) PHOTOS of actual action at the games. 6) And finally, out of season coverage, just like the other D1 schools, including the little private school that has 1/4 of our student population.
Clear enough?

I guess I'll have to say it again, I don't want to take shots at others, because those will laugh at us. There was a saying I learned years ago, ripping others will not make yourself look better. Rob Jeter has done very well with that in the media. I'm just saying we matter, too! We want a piece of the pie as well.
Also, Amanda Braun told me we need our fans to send calls and e-mails on this. They won't listen to just me.

The only shots I'm taking are at the JS sports editors, who I presume don't even know that we are playing a huge game at home tonight on national television. In high def, even. I'm guessing they'll be too busy primping their leisure suits, spraying their hair and applying their Brut before they head up to PJ's Circus on Brown Deer for some disco! After all, it's still 1977, right? Tomorrow they can settle in front of their big screen 19" black and white Zenith for Jim Enberg and Al McGuire to call the game of the week, while reading all about it in their Street & Smith's!

See most of us don't get what Marquette has to do with this. We all get it, you hate Marquette. The horse is dead! If some on here are saying UWM should get coverage OVER the Packers, Brewers, Badgers, MU, Bucks are not going to be happy with the answers from people in TV, radio, newspaper, etc. will say to us UWM Panther fans. What we all need to demand, like I said weeks ago before the Monday's game versus Oakland is that we need send e-mails and call and say "we" meaning (Milwaukee Panthers) matter too. Give us some coverage!!

Oh go away with the stupid "Fran hates Marquette" horse-sh*te. My Dad went to Marquette. I was friends with players on their championship team. A friend of Ric Majerus. A CLOSE personal friend of one of their ADs. I work closely with the law school now on projects and will continue to do so. God bless 'em!
But no -- I don't care one way or the other if their BASKETBALL program ever wins another game. Why should I? Why should any Milwaukee fan? That's not my alma mater and not my team. All they do is suck the air from the room in the local media, air we need. And to see how eager their fans were to destroy our home? EVERY Milwaukee fan should have been outraged by that. And yeah, it utterly amazes me that our lazy, hidebound local newspaper sports editors cover the region's one great University -- a great PUBLIC access university with four times MU's enrollment -- like a high school compared to the way it covers MU. That's outrageous but nobody calls them on it.
So that's what I'm doing.
It's not 1977!

I hope your not going by message board clowns in thinking that it's only MU fans that wanted the Arena & JS Building gone. I heard from most who are not Panthers fans, that wanted the Arena gone.
Bill Michaels on WSSP, went on saying tough sh*t, UWM.
People made fun of me, for sticking up for the Arena.

i work in radio-540 ESPN, and we dont cover UWM much, even though I've pushed for it. Homers the voice of the Golden Eagles, we have connections with Madison( Halperin etc), we should have connection with UWM as well. Even if I have to be that connection.Havent gone to any home games this year because they didnt send the station any press passes this year, like they have done in the past. Otherwise I would have attended several games. And as for the Arena I strongly opposed tearing it down. you have one of the few major sports buildings in the state older than Lambeau, you renovate it so its there for another 50. not tear it down for some newfagled thing that will be torn down itself in 30 years (Bradley Center)
