Clemson took Davidson behind the barn. I still think the Widcats will be strong.

Clemson took Davidson behind the barn. I still think the Widcats will be strong. They'll win the SoCon and make the tourney, same as always. It's a good win.

Davidson with a huge overtime win over Charlotte 87-78. scores.espn.go.com/ncb/boxscore?gameId=400499306Charlotte is having a great season so far. Highlighted by winning the Puerto Rico Tip-off over Michigan. That field also had Georgetown, VCU, Kansas State, Florida State & Northeastern.

Just give Bob McKillop a week or two, and he'll make the necessary adjustments.

A few games of note from our Non-Conference opponents.
San Jose State 72, Houston 68 Iowa State 91, Northern Iowa 82 OT UMKC 88, Youngstown State 80 Wisconsin 70, Marquette 64 Loyola IL 73, UIC 70 Davidson 105, Joh. & Wales NC 63
Our NC opponents were 5-1 in those games. 2 of them came at the expense of Horizon League teams though.

Unfortunately, a Milwaukee non-conference opponent that beats a Horizon League team hurts Milwaukee's RPI (and Sagarin/Pomeroy/etc) nearly as much as if said HL team had lost to someone we never play, hurting us like 50 times, instead of 51 times, due to the transitive properties of the RPI. We play the defeated HL team twice, as do all the other HL teams, who then play each other twice, thus "sharing" or "multiplying" the said hit to our metrics (yay for the RPI formula!). If you care about having a quality RPI (and if you care about a possible NCAA seed in 2.5 months, then you should), then all HL members' non-conf games are extremely important to us. Cheering against a HL team (even GB), against anyone (even the Vadgers), is no different than cheering against ourselves as far as the RPI is concerned... sadly.

Our SOS is so bad it will be impossible for us to get a quality RPI rating, even if we beat Wisconsin.

I have to agree. It's a shame that we are playing the worst schedule in the conference this year, when we are possibly good enough to be putting together a quality resume... had we not scheduled worse than pmck used to at Green Bay!

If our RPI gets up to around 100 and we lose 6 or 7 total we'll get some NIT consideration.

We are now 9-2 (8-2 vs D-I), and our home win versus Bradley moved us up about 40 spots in the RPI... to 116th in the nation: warrennolan.com/basketball/2014/conference/Horizon%20LeagueMinor sidenote: props to Green Bay for doing what our athletic department is apparently too incompetent to, and getting their name changed on this website (along with dozens of other sites... and Time Warner Cable Wisconsin's programming guide... and who knows where else). LOL.

And I disagree. An RPI around 100 would definitely get us considered for the NIT if we played in a "Power" conference, but history has shown that even an RPI in the 70's or 80's is usually not good enough for a Horizon League team. I'd guess that we'd need to finish in the 60's or better to seriously count on an NIT bid if we don't win the regular season or conference tournament. Obviously, a regular season title guarantees us an NIT bid.

Just keep winning, and win the HL tourney. The rest takes care of itself. Our schedule in the non-conference has been respectable. Honestly, we need to find a way to get out of the Horizon League at this point. Easier said than done.
