Is there anyone watching the NCAA tourney going on that is demonstrating the severe lack of coaching acumen even among the sweet 16 finalists. Brad Stevens and Buzz Williams were just depending on luck, cause neither one knew how to win the game. Now let me say coaching is not recruiting. Players can win games for bad coaches. Coaches can win games for bad players. UWM needs players. Jeter and staff need to recruit and keep players for 4 years. My guess is he'll get two more years to get the job done. His incoming class looks good but he needs some inside bodies. Let's talk basketball. A coaching change at this point will not immediately improve the program. It will take it back at least two years, especially with a D2 coach. Jeter knows how to win as well as Williams and Stevens, contract or no contract. It's frickin basketball. BBFran, I thought you had sworn off this board. why did you change your name?

I don't think that our issue is a talent deficit nearly as much as it is a fun deficit.
Aside from its seed, does watching Florida Gulf Coast remind you of a team from, say, eight years ago?
At its core, college basketball is supposed to be a rewarding experience relished by everyone from the administration to the faculty to the community to the players and coaches.
Is anyone around here having even a smidgen of fun anymore?

Jeter knows how to win as well as Williams and Stevens, I've been posting on this board for almost 10 years. This has to be the most inane, ridiculous, and completely homerific comment I have ever read here. Please tell me you're joking. Please.

Wizard of Dunk City in line for big payday Andy Staples suggested Del Dunka Vista instead of Dunk City.

Let me respond to coaching after enjoying a nice bottle of Cotes du Rhone. College coaching is about self promotion and money. UWM fell for it and now must pay for it. If Jeter has any integrity he will promote his ability in order to get out of here or to make more money right here, The latter is less a possibility than the former. Do you not really think Brad Stevens cares more about succeeding Mike K at Duke than the Butler program. He is promoting himself if not for Duke than Michigan, or North Carolina, or maybe Arkansas, think Bilema. These guys are generally way overrated. They recruit well but aren't the best coaches ever. They make way too much money and I wish UWM would get out of this trap. Let Jeter do what he has to do to either move on or become the winningest coach in UWM history. Gene Bartow was a coaches coach who ended up at UAB at a time when UAB was similar to UWM. He had coached at Memphis and UCLA. He didn't do well at UCLA because he was a good old Southern boy. The LA press hated him. They wanted and are still looking for the next John Wooden. He was a coach and help develop a fairly strong program at UAB. My point remains that there really is not much difference from Jeter to Stevens, or Jeter to Diener, or Jeter to Buzz. The program needs to build through its fan base and alumni support. It needs to create enthusiasm and a culture of winning. This may be Jeter's biggest fault, finding a direction. It's not his contract.

Why buy out Jeter for an assistant at this time? It doesn't make any sense to me. It is not financially prudent and will not change a damn thing for at least two years. Tubby Smith just got canned after some success. Does anyone think Minnesota will be that much better in the next two years. Let Jeter run out his contract and concentrate on building a fan base and improved facilities.

Let Jeter do what he has to do to ... become the winningest coach in UWM history. Long before he does (Guy Penwell, 186 victories), he'll become the losingest (Penwell, 145 losses).

His tenure there is probably the most success Minnesota will ever have, so no I don't think they will be better off in the next 2 years or long after that. I agree that going after an assistant would be foolish at this point. We need a proven winner.

I have two nephews who are Minnesota alum. They said the fans really liked Tubby. Not sure what Minnesota is thinking, they may not find a better coach.

Not sure what Minnesota is thinking, they may not find a better coach. Speculation is that Flip Saunders has told Minnesota he will take the job, but that they should try to get Shaka Smart first. I'm not saying Saunders is a better coach than Smith; just that there seems to be a plan in place (insert UWM joke here).

The Shaka talk stems from the fact that Minnesota's AD is Norwood Teague, who was Shaka's boss at VCU. Norwood Teague, in my opinion, is the best AD in the nation. Eveything he did at VCU was outstanding - the way he negotiated contracts with coaches was trailblazing, the Villa 6 and 7 conferences were groundbreaking.
Should he hire Shaka, a clause in Shaka's VCU contract - negotiated by Teague - will come into effect. The University of Minnesota-Twin Cities will owe VCU either a dollar amount (I think it's $200k) or a 2-for-2 series. It's the same clause that Jeff Capel signed, which led to VCU to punk Oklahoma for four games.

Oklahoma/VCU was a 1 for 1 with the teams splitting. Hardly a punking.

We are stuck with Jeter for at least two years. Good or Bad......... Let it play out and see what happens. Fill the KC and make it an attractive venue for the next coach. Good coaches will be available down the road especially with better facilities. Amen.
