blackandgold, you lose a lot of credibility when you say Paris Gulley is reminiscent of a D-II player. He's five days removed from scoring 24 against a Northern Iowa team that actually might beat a top-15 Creighton and win the MVC. I knew I was going to take criticism for that comment, but I stand by it. On the offensive end Paris Gulley is an undersized, one dimensional shooting guard. His only strength offensively is shooting three pointers or long jumpers. Gulley is weak offensively, he's unable to create effectively off the dribble, and he has tremendous difficulty finishing around the rim. Fact: Paris Gulley had no NCAA Division 1 offers out of high, so as a result Gulley attended junior college for two years. Perhaps all of the NCAA Division 1 coaches during the time Paris Gulley was in high school have lost credibility in your eyes as well. If you honestly think Paris Gulley is a legitimate starting shooting guard on a horizon league championship caliber team then I have some swamp land to sell you. Do we forget at how good of an on-ball defender Paris is? And his offensive game has evolved immensely. He is now driving, getting to the lane, creating, and scoring off the dribble. To say he's a D-II player must be your frustration with the team overall, because I can't believe anyone can blatantly under appreciate how good he really is. If it wasn't for Paris, we would've lost by 40 tonight. He's the only one with heart on this team and he's only been back practicing for a week and a half.

In the Round of 32 game against Boston College., there were 37 instances of Panther bodies hitting the floor. Last night, Demetrius took a knee to the nether region and fell on his tailbone. This was noteworthy because it was the only time that a Panther went anywhere near the floor. I don't know if this is more a function of style or belief in the program (probably a balanced combination of both), but it's a pretty sad commentary on this team's abject lack of passion. In Rob's own words, the program's in a "bad place right now." This is not true. Haarsma flops for a blocking foul at least 3 times a game and Kelm falls over his own feet at least 5 times a game.

On Wednesday against Buffalo, there was one -- or perhaps two -- instances where a Panther player hit the deck. That's all ... and it's extremely troubling. There was a time not all that long ago when effort, hustle, belief, determination, passion and "balls-out" play defined this program. Now? It's the sound of scratching heads and shrugging shoulders.

Of all people on this team, I can't believe Paris Gulley is getting flack. In the 2 games he has been back, he looks like he has added another dimension to his game aside from the 3 ball. Going from not wanting Paris to shoot anything but 3's, to this year wanting him to have the ball more to drive to the basket.
There are plenty of other players that I could call out for lack or heart, passion etc....but I will keep them to myself and hope we come out and trounce NIU.

Sucks even more that no one even discusses the NI game tonite. That's troubling.
