Note that the contract is through July 2013, so is he brought in to clean-up and get things back in order for a long-term replacement? He is 73 years old.

Puzzling.

Puzzling. "UWM Chancellor Mike Lovell said in a statement that Geiger, 73, 'possesses leadership qualities to bring stability and continuity to UWM athletics during this transitional phase.' " You could take that statement a lot of ways.

Love the hire. I don't see it being long term. I'd say he'd groom his replacement here and will retire (again) relatively quickly. Still, the credentials he brings to the table are unprecedented and a move like this shows a true commitment to athletics we haven't seen in a long time.

I was told Geiger is likely going to be here until the contract runs out and no longer. He's going to be the point man in trying to find a replacement as well. This is still a huge deal.
I was also told by my source that it was going to happen tomorrow, but I couldn't get a hold of two more people - can't run a story with just one.
I only heard myself earlier this morning, so I don't think I'd have had a story up in time anyways - I'm in Portage at the ADESA auction, as I am every Thursday.
