I know what I enjoy seeing: winning basketball. Getting a few extra (fruitless) free throw attempts in the 2nd half isn't going to turn things around. To have an effective offense in Jeter's system, you need at least one consistent outside shooter and a consistent low-post presence. This team has neither and that's why they can't score. And barring an epiphany where Jeter realizes he needs to get this team to play faster and start pushig the ball, nothing will change. The abysmal free throw shooting is icing on the cake.

Valpo was on Saturday. The team needed to move on and protect the home floor versus YSU. It's sad how the team didn't bring the energy on Tuesday night.

Never expected a win like that. Then you haven't been paying attention. YSU is simply a better team than Milwaukee right now. Isn't it amazing what can happen when a player steps to the line and sinks two (or, gasp, three) free throws?

Anyone know what happened to Kyle Kelm, I saw via his twitter page that he had x-rays. What did he have x-rays on? Good to hear he can finish the season though

Anyone know what happened to Kyle Kelm, I saw via his twitter page that he had x-rays. What did he have x-rays on? Good to hear he can finish the season though Kyle (like most of the team) is part of the "Walking Wounded" club. He has stress fractures in his foot, but he can play the rest of the season. Just like Kaylon's legs and Ryan Allen's ankle, Kelm is playing through it. This basically has been the worst season injury-wise we've had in quite awhile. I believe 07-08 we had a few injuries (not just departing players) - Skinner could barely walk and Paulsen had a major thumb injury on his shooting hand. To say we've been decimated by injuries would be incorrect - the definition of decimation is to remove 1/10th of something. Of the 16 or so players on the team, EIGHT of them have missed time or are significantly hobbled by injuries. Folks, if you're skeptical, ask yourself this: when was the last time you saw Ryan Allen throw down?

For the record - if you think that injuries are the number one reason why we are in the position we are in, I would suggest that you may be living in the aforementioned land of unicorns, lollipops, rainbows, etc. One can definitely argue IMO that losing Ja'rob, Lonnie and Evan could be the biggest reason for our struggles thus far this season. Especially considering the main problems for the Panthers is scoring. We all know that Ja'rob can score and the little time we saw with Evan healthy, he could have definitely had an impact on the offensive end.

The three biggest reasons for our mediocre performance -- and that's what we are when you consider that five of our victories came over Southwest Minnesota State, Northern Illinois, Texas Southern, UNO and IUPUI -- is offensive inefficiency, injuries at one position and free-throw shooting.
I'll let others determine which of the aforementioned factors has hurt us the most.

Ugh. UIC beat Youngstown tonight. Is it possible to feel even worse about Tuesday's game now?

Ugh. UIC beat Youngstown tonight. Is it possible to feel even worse about Tuesday's game now? No. YSU plays their third game in six days after traveling how many miles to play the past two games. Recall that UIC gave us a scare at home, so no, I don't feel worse.

3rd place in Horizon... Closing fast on... 3rd Place. I mean, let's be completely honest. This team needs a break. One game this weekend will help - it's to the point where you're worrying about putting a healthy 5 on the court.

Thanks for the tip nohopspanther. Much appreciated. I thought I would finally be able to avoid the J-S, but now that I can bypass the paywall (I can't believe they are using cookies to institute that (I guess I do recall NYTimes an WaPo do or initially did do the same when they went for the article viewer $$)- really weird, but I guess if you don't have an account, it's one of the few ways to do it).. it's too irresistible. As much as I don't like the J-S, they put out way better articles than the Wisconsin State Journal (IMO). Controversy sells- that's the name of the game in journalism these days.. or all days. The "New Yellow Journalism" I guess... can't help but peek and see what the writers think and what people have to say about it... as depressing as it is..

Ugh. UIC beat Youngstown tonight. Is it possible to feel even worse about Tuesday's game now? That was a good result for us. I've still got my eye (realistically) on third place. Let's get Loyola here for a game on Feb. 28.
